Speech Language Pathologist

Must have LSVT Loud Certification!

Per Diem for outpatient clinic and/or homecare clients. Flexible hours/schedule.

Able to provide effective and professional verbal and non-verbal communication skills in accordance with ASHA guidelines. Communicates clearly respectfully and honestly with patients families caregivers and colleagues. Works collaboratively in accordance with other disciplines involved and with community-based healthcare providers. Proactively provides written and verbal communication and recommendations to physicians nurses case managers and other personnel involved in the patients care.

Consistently applies the basic concepts of evidence-based practice to all aspects of clinical care. Completes all necessary clinical competencies as assigned by the program specific leadership. Seeks additional knowledge when necessary to assure safe and effective treatment of all patients and to provide family/caregivers with clear and accurate education.

Evaluates and diagnoses patients demonstrating speech voice language feeding/swallowing and cognitive impairments based on patient history behavioral observations and results of tests and procedures. Uses assessment data to guide clinical decision making in determining the plan of care and effective planning for discharge. Provides appropriate services to patients consistent with their level of medical acuity. Makes recommendations and appropriate referrals for additional diagnostic testing to ensure appropriate management. Prepares report of findings indicating evaluation results diagnosis and prognosis.

Must be LSVT certified and provide knowledge of LSVT to appropriate individuals as prescribed.

Demonstrates knowledge of medical speech-language pathology practice, Develops selects and prescribes augmentative and alternative communication systems including unaided strategies and aided strategies. Trains and educates individuals families and other communication partners in use.Selects fits and establishes effective use of appropriate prosthetic/adaptive devices for communication and swallowing.

Provides services to individuals with hearing loss and their families/caregivers (e.g. auditory training for patients with cochlear implants and hearing aids; speech and language intervention secondary to hearing loss).Provides assessment and intervention for individuals diagnosed with auditory processing disorders. Screens individuals for hearing loss or middle ear pathology using conventional pure-tone air conduction methods, provides services to modify or enhance communication performance (e.g. accent modification care and improvement of the professional voice).

Develops plan of care designed to meet individual needs of patient. Arranges patients therapy schedule. Conducts therapy individually or in group situations according to prepared plans.

Regularly assesses patients progress and revises plan of care accordingly in order to meet needs of individual patients.

Completes accurate and timely clinical documentation and charges in full compliance with hospital professional and regulatory standards that demonstrate eligibility/medical necessity of services.

Measures outcomes of treatment and conducts continuous evaluation of the effectiveness of practices and programs to improve and maintain quality of services. Maintains documentation for Performance Improvement practices and programs.

Provides speech pathology consultation to physicians rehabilitation personnel and other professionals to direct and coordinate patients plan of care.

Demonstrates ability to flex schedule based on program and/or patient family caregiver need. Determines priorities according to patient care needs. Meets productivity standards as determined by the department. Engages in program specific quality improvement initiatives striving for professional excellence. Enhances professional expertise through ongoing appropriate educational activities.

Provides training and instruction to appropriate members of the department related to clinical area of focus or interest. Provides education to other hospital departments/personnel students of all levels and outside agencies/schools.

Meet job requirements under challenging situations and time constraints.

Completes mandatory departmental trainings as assigned by clinical manager.

Demonstrates behavior which follows the ASHA Code of Ethics in all aspects of clinical work and staff relationships.

Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology and State License issued by the Rhode Island Department
