Job Title – Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant

Reports to – School Director

Position Overview

Reporting to the Site Director, the Student Support Speech Pathologist will be responsible for assessing and identifying communication disorders and collaborating with learners and families on intervention that is appropriate to the age and learning needs of each individual.

Student Support Speech Pathologist’s regular hours are Monday through Friday during school hours and on additional days and times as needed to participate in functions and career learning opportunities.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Work with students exhibiting the full range of communication disorders, including those involving language, articulation (speech sound disorders), fluency, voice/resonance, and swallowing.
  • Contribute significantly to the literacy achievement of students with communication disorders, as well as other learners who are at risk for school failure, or those who struggle.
  • Conduct assessments in collaboration with others that help to identify students with communication disorders as well as to inform instruction and intervention.
  • Provide intervention that is appropriate to the age and learning needs of each individual student, including children who are educationally at risk.
  • Configure school wide programs that employ a continuum of service delivery models in the least restrictive environment for students with disabilities, and other students as appropriate.
  • Gather and interpret data with individual students, as well as overall program evaluation.
  • Meet federal and state mandates as well as local policies including Individualized Education

Program (IEP) development, report writing, and treatment plan/therapy log development.

  • Collaborate with Facilitators, Student Support, Education Specialist, Counselor, in addition to others to design and implement programs.
  • Engage families in planning, decision making, and program implementation.
  • Actively engage students in goal planning, intervention implementation, monitoring of progress, and self-advocacy appropriate to age and ability level.

  • Exhibit a desire and ability to engage in continuing education, professional development and skill upgrading.
  • Exhibit a willingness to work as a vital part of the team to ensure continuous improvement for students, staff and the community as a whole.
  • Demonstrate a love of students, enthusiasm for teaching, the belief that each student can and will succeed and the willingness to do whatever it takes to make that happen.
  • Other duties as defined by the principal.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited school of speech-language pathology.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Positive attitude and professional demeanor.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with learners, parents, personnel and community.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or its equivalent.
  • Certificate: American Speech Hearing Language Association Certificate of Clinical Competence in speech pathology or audiology.
  • License: State License issued by State of California Board of Medical Quality Assurance Speech

Pathology and Audiology Examining Committee.
