Waterford Montessori Academy is seeking a Michigan certified, special education endorsed teacher for a special education teacher position. Certified teachers enrolled in a special education program are welcomed!

You will work as a member of a collaborative, results- and data-driven multidisciplinary team to help assigned students reach their individualized goals. While our school is relatively small with 400 students at two Waterford campuses, we have a robust and growing special education team that includes a certified special education director, three special education teachers (four when you join!), two social workers, three aides, and contracted OT and speech. We are small enough that you can see the difference you're making every day, but staffed with the knowledgeable, experienced professionals you need to grow and develop.

Special Education Teacher

REPORTS TO: Director

EMPLOYED BY: LEADERSHIP ASSOCIATES

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum Bachelor's Degree with valid Michigan Teacher Certificate and endorsement.
2. Ability to teach and develop curriculum for assigned grade.
3. Possess applicable endorsements as required by MDE.
4. Maintain highly qualified status as required by ESSA.

NATURE OF POSITION:
Implementation and coordination of instructional programs to support students reaching their individualized goals and objectives. Achieving excellence requires that this position works collaboratively and communicates effectively with students, parents, members of the community and colleagues. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for planning, coordination and monitoring the effective delivery of the established curriculum to students.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:
The Special Education Teacher:

1. Teaches and supports assigned students and/or classes at the primary, elementary, or middle school level, in academic, elective or special subjects.

2. Prepares, adapts, and delivers instructional material.
3. Develops suitable curricula and effective teaching methods based on assessment of students' needs. Evaluates students' academic and behavioral progress.
4. Supervises students in classrooms, school buildings and social-curricular activities.
5. Develops educational plans for the individual student.
6. Teaches desirable study, work and recreational habits by providing pupils with opportunities for which they are best suited.
7. Creates and maintains student records and prepares reports relative to the work.
8. Selects appropriate texts, learning aids, materials, and supplies.
9. Participates in teacher training, as required.
10. Plans and participates in extra-curricular student and staff activities.
11. Maintains records and prepares reports and correspondence related to the work.
12. Performs related work as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position requires frequent standing and walking throughout building and school grounds. Ability to stoop, crouch, kneel and bend occasionally. Occasionally lifts and carries materials or items weighing up to 20 pounds. Ability to use senses - sight, hearing. Ability to type; uses hand/eye coordination for typing and data entry.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Satisfactory criminal background check.

The Teacher will:

Montessori Academy.

3. Communicate effectively with the students and parents regarding information, policies and procedures.
4. Demonstrate the willingness and ability to work with people in a team environment.
5. Assure confidentiality of all student and school privileged information
6. Maintain positive, cooperative and mutually supportive relationships with the Board, Saginaw Valley State

University, students, parents, fellow teachers, co-workers and the community.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of Directors, Board, staff, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory with specific job duties and area of service.
Must have strong communication, interpersonal and computer skills.
Experience and demonstrated knowledge and use of PC/Windows and web based applications and software including word processing and spreadsheet applications required.
Must have ability to learn and utilize new software programs as systems are upgraded.
Typing/keyboarding required with good grammatical spelling and punctuation.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, students, staff, Board, vendors and the community.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
Ability to perform duties maintaining current knowledge of all district requirements and applicable regulatory standards.
