Job Description
A Special Education Paraprofessional serves as a critical member of the Special Education team by supporting students’ academic and behavioral needs in both the general education and special education environment. This role includes working under the supervision of a Special Education teacher to support a caseload of students. The caseload of assigned students may span grades K- 10 and a variety of diagnoses (e.g. Autism, Intellectual Disability, Emotional Disturbance, Other Health Impairment).
Responsibilities include:

Deliver and support instruction that is planned by a supervising special education teacher

Actively contribute to the development and implementation of students’ academic and behavioral support plans

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students and teachers based on trust and respect

Perform health-related procedures such as: feeding, lifting, positioning, carrying, toileting, tube feeding, cleaning catheterization and suctioning equipment

Escort, assist, and/or supervise student(s) during play periods, movement throughout the building, arrival, dismissal, toileting routines, lunch, snack, specialized and inclusive classes, community activities and other times as designated

Prepare materials as directed by a supervising special education teacher

Embrace and incorporate feedback in the spirit of constant improvement

Attend critical school events such as staff meetings, open houses, orientations, and family conferences

Meet professional obligations including timeliness, maintenance of accurate and up-to-date records, and consistency in meeting deadlines

Perform other duties related to Special Education, as assigned by a supervising special education teacher or administrator
Qualifications
Qualifications:
The following are required of all applicants:
- Experience working with students
- A high school diploma or GED
- 60 hours of college credit or Certification via the Paraprofessional Assessment
- Bachelor’s degree and certification in special education preferred
Physical Abilities:
- Lift up to 25 pounds, unassisted
- Lift more than 25 pounds, or student’s weight, with assistance
Additional Information
- Applicants currently pursuing a certification may apply before certification is received. All certifications must be acquired and on file with KIPP KC before the end of the first year of employment.
Compensation: Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. Additionally, KIPP KC offers a comprehensive benefits package including health coverage and retirement.
