Role Summary

The Sourcing Specialist is responsible for developing solutions to sourcing strategies and facilitates the sourcing process for assigned commodities and projects, including assisting in project assessment, evaluating supplier capabilities, and negotiating contracts to achieve financial and quality objectives for Alaska Airlines (AS). As an individual contributor, this role develops benchmarking strategies to validate existing supply chain practices and to drive market development and adoption of best practices.

Key Duties

  • Develops sourcing strategies and facilitates the sourcing process for assigned commodities and projects, including assisting in project assessment, evaluating supplier capabilities, developing RFx’s and negotiating contracts to achieve financial, legal and quality objectives.
  • Develops benchmarking strategies to validate existing supply chain practices and to drive market development and adoption of best practices.
  • Manages the overall analytical requirements for initiatives through the development of technology skills, as well as the use of new technologies and additional resources.
  • Analyzes data and develops reports using available reporting tools for both end-users and management.
  • Analyzes AS spend and identifies areas of opportunity for cost savings.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships and communications with customers and suppliers.
  • Assists in developing, implementing, and managing contracts, and develops metrics to ensure compliance to agreements, contracts, and other operational partnering efforts.
  • Interfaces with all levels within AS and supplier organizations.
  • Works closely with Business Partners, Buyers and the Sourcing team to identify sourcing opportunities.
  • Manages the entire life cycle for commodities, including source selection, vendor oversight, and asset acquisition and disposition.
  • Negotiates, MSA’s, NDA’s, SOW’s and DPA’s.
  • Ensures suppliers meet or exceeds quality, cost, and performance objectives.
  • Builds cross-divisional consensus that balances operational objectives with financial responsibility.
  • Continuously seeks ways to improve processes, increase productivity, and reduce waste.
  • Trains and mentors Buyers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 2 years of buying, sourcing, or related procurement experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Supply Chain, Business Management, or related area, an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Ability to formulate and deliver convincing presentations to a range of organizational counterparts.
  • Highly self-motivated, with the ability to work and to drive change in a decentralized organization.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Professional certification from the Institute for Supply Management (ISM).
  • Experience with vendor oversight, including performance management and continuous improvement.
  • Contracting and negotiation experience.
  • Track record of sustaining strong customer and supplier relationships.
  • Analytical competence (e.g., cost/benefit analyses).
  • Strong team building and project management skills.

Salary Range

$61,600 - $92,400 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
