Shipping/Packing Assistant Job at Smyth County Machine
Description of Position:
Your main area of responsibility at Smyth County Machine will be to prepare machined and fabricated metal products for shipment to customers, to include appropriate packaging, securing and occasional delivery.
You may also assist with receiving, maintaining and counting in-house inventory. Other duties related to shipping and receiving may be performed as necessary.
Shipping Assistant Job Duties:
- Prepare orders by processing shipping and stock requests; pulling materials; packing boxes; placing orders in delivery area for pickup.
- Coordinate with all departments to fulfill specific and ongoing inventory and shipping needs.
- Maintain excellent customer service by following organizational QMS requirements.
- Ensure a safe and clean work environment by keeping shelves, packing area, and workstations neat; maintaining clean shipping supply area.
- Document any necessary updates to process and aid in inventory management
- Pack and ship items securely and effectively to minimize breakage.
- Build and wrap pallets for secure shipment with freight carriers
- Fill all customer orders with accuracy and timeliness. Pack sold items properly and ship in a timely basis per policy.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
- Experience with, or ability to quickly learn, various shipping portal requirements.
- Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude at all times in a dynamic work environment.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Commitment to continuous learning and training opportunities that support job responsibilities.
- Work well as part of a team as well as independently
- Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented
- Manage your time well when you have competing priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to learn and use spreadsheet and database tools
- Fluency in spoken and written English
- Ability to continuously stand or walk.
- Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs and lift frequently
- Lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Remain flexible about duties and expectations as Smyth County Machine grows and changes.
