We have an exciting opportunity open for a
Service Technician in our Mountain Grove, MO district.


A Service Technician is responsible for maintaining outstanding customer service as per company standards while performing skilled work for a variety of operational duties relative to the assigned area of responsibility.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

o Leak surveys

o Natural gas locates

o Read all types of company gas meters

o Program and replace electronic remote transmitters (ERTS)

o Run, understand and calibrate Combustible Gas Indicator (CGI) equipment

o Perform a basic meter set to company standards

o Perform operational functions such as installation, removal and replacement of gas meters;

o Turn-on and shut-off activities and pressure tests

o Respond to gas and carbon monoxide (CO) leak calls

o Emergency temporary and permanent PE line repairs

o Assist with global positioning system (GPS) as requested

To skillfully perform the above listed duties a Technician I must:

o Use and care for Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) including SCBA (respirator) use under emergency situations

o Achieve Operations Qualification (OQ) certification to company standards; Passing required written tests and field evaluations

o Maintain OQ certifications (continuing education) to company standards

o Become qualified to serve on the On-call assignment rotation within 6 months of hire date

o Accurately complete all necessary paperwork – JHA, WOFA, Cayenta, Compliance Forms and Documents

o Estimate time, materials and equipment required for assigned jobs; maintain records of work performed and parts used; keep accurate records of any monetary transactions involving the company credit card or customer transactions

o Perform general clean up at job sites and observe and implement proper safety practices

o Follow good health and safety principles, practices and maintain a business-like appearance including wearing company provided clothing is essential to providing the proper company image

o Understand conditions for combustion and venting hazards and perform “Red Tagging” of defective natural gas appliances

o Recognize an AOC at Company Facilities and make corrections and/or contact the District Manager or senior technician for further instruction

Other important duties include:

o Ensure that the district’s shop is maintained to the highest standard

o Provide continuous care of district Company vehicles

o Perform other duties as assigned by the District Manager or other Senior Technicians

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • High School or GED preferred
  • Necessary Operator Qualifications (OQ’s) to perform DOT pipeline covered tasks on a natural gas operating system are required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Strong demonstrated mechanical aptitude required
  • Effective interpersonal skills needed to ensure excellent customer service
  • Strong time management practices required to multi-task several projects
  • Good verbal and written communication skills required for dealing with internal departments, customers and vendors and completing required paperwork
  • Demonstrated work ethic
  • Desire to show initiative to pursue opportunities to support whatever is needed to ensure the successful achievement of the district office’s goals
  • Willingness to work with others to achieve departmental goals
  • Understanding of the importance of learning and practicing safety principles

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Fast-paced, changing environment
  • Shop and field, indoor and outdoor environment; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, chemicals, inclement weather conditions; work or inspect in confined spaces.
  • Heavy driving on a regular basis
  • In state travel required (approximately 10-30% per year)
  • Out of state travel required (approximately 5-15%)
  • General office environment


The position is covered under the D.O.T. regulations and Summit Utilities Drug and Alcohol Policy and is, therefore, subject to all terms of the Policy, including the random selection for drug testing.
