JOB SUMMARY:

The Nestlé Development Center in Solon is responsible for the ideation, creation, and renovation of new and existing frozen and chilled meals, pizza, and snacking product experiences. In this role, you will be responsible for managing descriptive sensory panels, leading sensory tests in collaboration with Technicians and Sensory & Product Experience Specialists, and contributing to turning statistical data into insights to guide successful product development.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leading sensory studies:
  • Partner with Sensory & Product Experience Specialists to select appropriate sensory methodologies for specific business situations
  • Organizing and leading descriptive panel sessions with excellence
  • Creating sensory glossaries in alignment with global guidelines
  • Leading Sensory Technicians and Assistants, ensuring proper sample preparation and serving according to test design
  • Designing shelf-life studies
  • Analyzing and summarizing sensory data with a focus on translating technical findings into business recommendations
  • Creating and deploying sensory specifications for new products
  • Participating in special projects to evolve current practices, either internally or with the extended global sensory community

Managing sensory panels.
  • Supporting screening and recruitment of sensory panelists
  • Designing and conducting sensory training sessions. Creating, managing, and applying sensory references to support training sessions
  • Ensuring high data quality by monitoring panel performance, identifying gaps and acting on them

JOB QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, and Knowledge):


  • BS or BA in Food Science, Sensory Science, or related field. Technical training in scientific or food-related field is a plus.
  • Experience in descriptive panel moderation.
  • Strong computer skills: MS-Office (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Sensory data collection / statistical software (e.g. EyeQuestion, SenPaq, XLSTAT, SAS) is a plus.
  • Experience with sensory statistical analysis and reporting
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills


SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
A proactive and independent person who is able to lead/manage/complete projects with minimal supervision. Creative and innovative with a sense of urgency and passion. There will be at least two formal meetings with the supervisor to evaluate the progress toward the goals. There is also the opportunity to work closely with other members of the team for guidance. There will be formal training sessions set up for all newcomers to Nestlé as well as specific courses required as an R&D employee. The Manager will set up a training plan, and it is the responsibility of the individual to execute the plan.

SUPERVISION GIVEN:
This individual does not have any direct reports but should be able to lead/mentor Sensory Panelists and team members in projects that he/she is leading.
