JOB SUMMARY
  • Senior Windows Administrator Ansible Expert to be an integral part of the day-to-day operations of a large data center at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
  • This position supports 24x7 mission-critical systems hosted on physical and virtual servers in an active clustering environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Senior Windows Systems Administrator, to be an integral part of the day-to-day operations of a large data center at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)’s National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) in College Park, MD. This position supports 24x7 mission-critical systems hosted on physical and virtual servers in an active clustering environment.
  • The Sr Systems Administrator may participate in risk management and preparation of technical reviews. Provide guidance and direction into the support of O&M activities and associated best practices.
  • Participate in systems engineering activities (in a support role) which include one or more of the following: Concept of Operations formulation, requirements definition, system analysis and design, validation and verification, system integration and, system performance analysis.
  • Must work well with general guidance, generate competent technical input for operations type documentation, be detailed and security oriented.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communications skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills to deal with multiple contractors and government organizations.
  • Must have worked in large enterprise class type environments, be in line with industry best practices, think outside the box, and be able to make recommendations to improve overall governance and support continuous improvement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Extensive infrastructure and Windows based application support experience.
  • Familiarity and practical application of advanced principles of ITIL/ITSM.
  • Manage, track, report and process support tickets or change requests daily.
  • Monitor incident trends and coordinate process improvement proactive resolution processes.
  • Develop, implement and enforce process and SOP’s for O&M and incident response.
  • Ability to present to executive management incident debriefs and root cause analysis reports.
  • Provide general system administration such as: security patching, OS upgrades, troubleshooting, and ensuring maximum system availability.
  • Manage, monitor, troubleshoot and optimize Active Directory and system health.
  • Provide escalated customer support and ticket resolution (servers and/or workstations).
  • Perform daily administration and document system infrastructure.
  • Design, engineer and create various system builds (physical and virtual) - including recovery.
  • Install new applications, perform system upgrades, evaluate, and install patches.
  • Keen ability to manage a wide array of COTS products that have little to no support available.
  • Resolve software and hardware related problems.
  • Perform vulnerability remediation and security hardening functions.
  • Install, configure, manage, and maintain VMware vSphere 6.5+ environments.
  • Perform patch management using Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)
  • Create and deploy software packages/updates using Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).
  • Provide escalated Tier 2 & Tier 3 technical support to the help desk, desktop support, and network operations center.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS/BA degree (or equivalent exp) plus 8-10 years’ experience in related field.
  • 8-10 full-time years of progressive Windows systems administration experience into an enterprise setting.
  • 5 full-time years of demonstrated experience managing and troubleshooting GPP/GPO’s.
  • 5 full-time years of experience performing account and ACL management.
  • Mid-level to Expert-level knowledge of a variety of Windows operating systems and specific experience with Windows Server 2019
  • Senior–level Experience with Active Directory including Group Policy Mgmt.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server Update Services(WSUS), System Center Configuration Manager(SCCM), and Microsoft AD tools
  • Hands-on experience with VMware 6.x.
  • Must be available to perform rotational on-call 24x7 support.
  • High degree of proficiency with Powershell scripting
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is required for the position.
  • Candidates must successfully pass a Federal Background Investigation.

  • MCIP (Microsoft Certified IT Professional)
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) a plus
