As part of the Technology Development/R&D group based in Boise, the Surface Lab Scientists apply innovative surface analysis metrologies to support Technology Development and high-volume manufacturing activities worldwide. Additionally, the laboratory is involved with research innovations designed to improve metrology capability within the Micron community at the highest possible level. As a Senior or Principal Surface Scientist (level offered will be based on combination of experience and education) , you will be primarily responsible for independently leading significant projects to develop novel characterization processes and to partner with technical customers from throughout the company to enable improved insights into manufacturing processes. This strategic role also requires communicating results in a clear and concise manner through oral presentations, analytical reports, and technical papers. Furthermore, mentoring and guiding junior colleagues to develop their SSRM/SCM skills thereby improving throughput/capacity, and reducing SPK risks will be provided to you.

What’s Encouraged Daily:

  • SSRM/SCM technique ownership

  • Serve as a domain guide for SSRM (scanning spreading resistance microscopy) and SCM (scanning capacitance microscopy) techniques.

  • Collaborate with team members to understand characterization needs, and collaborate on experiment design to strive for solutions.

  • Research, capture, and analyze information related to specific assignments within your technical subject area.

  • Recommend process or equipment changes to improve lab capabilities and metrics.

  • Develop, introduce, and apply new surface analysis strategies and procedures to support the development and production of next-generation memory solutions.

  • Enable ground-breaking technologies and novel semiconductor manufacturing by investigating material properties in partnership with Micron engineers and scientists.

  • Present Lab capabilities to technical audiences within Micron.

  • Demonstrate proficient knowledge of data collection and analytical strategies and techniques to chip into group objectives.

  • Implement projects within guidelines defined by management.

  • Present reports and findings with appropriate conclusions and recommendations based on the results.

How To Qualify:

  • Validated experience using AFM and related techniques.

  • The ability to sustain clear lines of communication allows for a quick response to team members' analytical questions. The nature of Micron's organization requires constant and consistent communication regarding projects, procedures, solving methods, etc.

  • Experience using SSRM and/or SCM techniques for the characterization of activated dopants in devices.

  • Proven success in academia and/or experience in the semiconductor industry.

  • Expertise in material science, particularly semiconductor physics.

  • BS, MS, or Ph.D. in EE, Materials Science, Chemistry, or Physics

  • Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes is advantageous, as is an understanding of DRAM and/or NAND structures.
