Acadia Center is seeking an energetic climate and clean energy advocacy professional based in Rhode Island. The position can be filled at either the Senior Policy Advocate or Policy Advocate level. The Policy Advocate will play a leadership role in advancing Acadia Center advocacy efforts with a primary focus on program work in Rhode Island and related regional forums.

Position

The Senior Policy Advocate/Policy Advocate will have a leadership role in advancing Acadia Center’s efforts to promote and implement energy and climate policy reforms in the state and in regional forums. We work in a wide array of forums, including legislative, government agency, community, and public engagement and outreach, and we work with numerous partner organizations and coalitions. Preparing externally focused policy and educational materials, drafting legislative and regulatory filings, and working with media are important aspects of the position. Depending on the candidate’s experience and interest, the position can include work on regional (multi-state) initiatives. Policy priorities include climate and clean energy decarbonization pathways and implementation, improving the energy performance of buildings, particularly lower quality housing, phasing out fossil gas, community and public engagement, utility and regional power grid policy reform and transportation, climate, and equity. The position reports to the Vice-President, Climate and Clean Energy Policy. Acadia Center employs a team approach to its work, and the position will interact with program staff, including advocates and policy researchers, and provide critical content and coordination with communications and development staff.

· Interest in advancing work in regulatory and legislative actions.

· Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communications skills, with the ability to present information clearly and effectively

· Enthusiasm to engage with a diverse array of organizations, communities, and voices to build and strengthen effective partnerships and coalitions to advance shared work goals and represent the organization in a professional and respectful manner

· Experience in environmental and climate justice is highly valued

· Comfort using data to inform our advocacy

· Self-motivated with an ability to work both independently and with teams and an ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects and seek direction when needed

· The Senior Policy Advocate would likely have earned an advanced degree (master’s, Ph.D., or J.D. with admission to the Rhode Island bar) and 5+ years of experience, including experience post-graduate or law degree

· The Policy Advocate would have 2-5 years of relevant experience regarding sustainable energy, regulatory, environmental, or climate issues

· Familiarity with Rhode Island is strongly preferred

· Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) familiarity is expected

Compensation

This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position; requests for flex or part-time schedules will be considered. During the pandemic, Acadia Center offices are closed, and all work is remote. This position location is based in Providence, Rhode Island. Acadia Center compensation is highly competitive with peer non-profit groups, and salary is commensurate with the selected candidate’s experience and skill levels. The range of compensation for a Policy Advocate is expected to be from $78,000 to $95,000, and Senior Policy Advocate, from $86,000 - $101,000 depending on life and work experience, knowledge of the field, and skillsets. Benefits include health care, dental, retirement, disability, and vacation.
