The Paralegal III Senior - Office of Investor Advocate shall provide legal support to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Office of the Investor Advocate (OIAD). OIAD is responsible for identifying areas in which investors would benefit from changes to federal laws, SEC regulations, or the rules of self-regulatory organizations (SRO), and for aiding investors in resolving significant problems they may have with the SEC or SROs. OIAD has four core functions: provide a voice for investors, assist retail investors, study investor behavior; and support the SEC’s Investor Advisory Committee.
Responsibilities:
  • Compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys, including tracking and monitoring filings by the Commission and by self-regulatory organizations (SROs) using an existing database.
  • Summarizes Commission and SRO filings and other documents; maintains case files.
  • Performs simple or complex legal research.
  • Synopsizes inquiries, research, and proposed approaches to resolve inquires Indexes, tracks, and controls exhibits and other materials at depositions and at trial.
  • Presents this information at team meetings, senior staff briefings, and for other uses as required.
  • Writes preliminary drafts of investor responses, legal memoranda, correspondence, and other materials, as required indexes, tracks, and controls exhibits and other materials
  • Writes preliminary drafts of legal memoranda and correspondence.
  • May synopsize Commission and SRO filings in preparation for attorney responses thereto.
  • Compiles documents related to Commission rulemakings, filings, comment letters, and SRO filings, documents for FOIA production requests, and Congressional inquiries, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related labor category field such as Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or Criminal Justice from an accredited college, university, school, or educational institution that has been accredited by accrediting bodies or organizations recognized by the US Department of Education
  • Minimum six (6) years of Paralegal experience
  • Minimum two (2) years working in a regulatory, compliance, or transactional environment
  • Paralegal Certificate (Certificate not required if degree is in Paralegal Studies or Legal Studies only)
  • Ability to provide favorable credit history
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must be comfortable speaking to retail investors and other members of the public over the telephone to resolve inquiries and gather additional information.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft 2010 or newer programs
  • Record keeping, data entry, and data retrieval using internal SEC systems, as well as SharePoint, Excel, and other systems.
  • Candidate must be able to work effectively in an extremely pressured environment.
  • Must have and use excellent oral and written communications skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Candidate typically works on high-visibility or mission critical aspects of a given project and performs all functional duties independently.
