Job Overview

The Multi-Craft Mechanic II is responsible for repairing and maintaining all assets in the production facility. This position also responds promptly to equipment breakdowns and repairs the machinery in a timely manner and performs planned and unscheduled work, as necessary. The Multi-Craft Mechanic II also provides advice and training to new personnel, Mechanic I level, Mechanic II level, and Multi-Craft Technicians; maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results; and maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies. This position is also responsible for making design improvements and process changes to improve overall production efficiencies as well as programming electrical and electronic equipment. This position is actively involved in line improvement teams and provides appropriate technical resources to resolve identified bottlenecks inclusive of equipment design change installation. Coordinate all changes and modifications with the Plant Controls Engineer if applicable.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs; developing job aids and one-point lessons; building equipment SOP’s.
  • Monitors and maintains multiple pieces of equipment by correctly completing assigned PM’s; performing corrective maintenance work orders; filling out all paperwork/work orders/parts usage and order forms. Identifies disabled obsolete equipment and ensures removal inclusive of component parts. Identifies unsupported equipment still in use and makes plans to upgrade and/or stock additional replacement parts as a contingency.
  • Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance; and assisting production as needed to keep line running at top efficiency. Refines PMs to ensure relevance, clarity and effectiveness.
  • Programs changes and modifications to electronic/electrical equipment to improve overall production. Coordinate all changes with the Plant Controls Engineer if applicable.
  • Trains and develops plant personnel on equipment and procedures. Trains team on right equipment to cover prior to water sanitation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Identify and troubleshoot complex process issues
  • Make mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic adjustments
  • Preferred ability to read blueprints, electrical prints, and machine schematics
  • Ability to comprehend complex processing equipment
  • Demonstrated initiative to further technical expertise
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controls (PLCs) required
  • Ability to effectively transfer troubleshooting concepts to others
  • Capable to head a team to resolve legacy problems
  • Mentors new Technicians to CCCI and role models behaviors (Values) to include attendance, GMPs, communication

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or up to 3 years of college or technical school
  • Knowledge acquired through 5 to 7 years work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical degree, experience, or demonstrated competency evaluation from a reputable Trade organization
