3D Systems Littleton:

As part of the Healthcare unit of 3D Systems, the Littleton facility manufactures 3D Systems Personalized Healthcare Services products and also acts as a contract manufacturer to customers in medical, dental, aerospace/defense, and other industries. We are experts in digital workflows, patient-specific devices, and five different kinds of 3D printing. The Manufacturing Engineering team supports all manufacturing activities at the Littleton facility. The team’s expertise spans both plastic and metal additive manufacturing, and related post-processing. The newly formed development manufacturing engineering team works cross functionally with the 3DS quality team and Application Innovation Group to help customers integrate additive manufacturing practices into their manufacturing workflows.


What We Are Looking For:

The 3D Systems site in Littleton, Colorado is expanding rapidly and needs a skilled Manufacturing Engineer to augment the existing Manufacturing Engineering team under the direction of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. The mission of the Manufacturing Engineering team is to develop and sustain manufacturing processes, both in-house and out-sourced, to improve cost, quality, capacity, and technical capability.


What You Will Do:

The following performance objectives will determine job success for this position:

1. Develop Manufacturing Processes: The development manufacturing engineer will work closely with the various 3DS development teams to create reliable, repeatable, and scalable processes. The development engineer will work closely with key production engineering and lab personnel to effectively transition projects to volume production.

2. Resolve Technical Issues: The manufacturing engineer shall be available to support the production floor by resolving short term and systemic issues during all phases of the development process. The manufacturing engineer shall use technical problem-solving skills to alleviate build holds and move product through the manufacturing process.

3. Cross-functional Development: The candidate in this role will be expected to work in a cross-functional environment with the various development, coordination, planning, and quality teams. A successful candidate shall fully understand the inputs and outputs from each of these teams as they pertain to the development process.

4. Process Set Up: The development manufacturing engineer shall be required to use their engineering judgment to specify, source and implement new capital equipment and manufacturing processes to augment 3D systems current offerings.

5. Deliver to Customers: When required, this role is responsible for interfacing with customers on manufacturing process related inquiries and issues. The individual in this role may be required to communicate with customers verbally, over email and/or through technical presentations.

6. Generate Best-in-Class Documentation: As part of the development process, the individual in this role will be responsible for delivering clear, concise, and thorough documentation such as standard operating procedures, work instructions and material specifications to the production technician and manufacturing engineering teams. A successful candidate will fully understand how product is made and how it is inspected in order to set straight forward acceptance criteria.

7. Provide Best-in-Class Training: The manufacturing engineer is responsible for providing detailed training to the various teams responsible for planning, manufacturing, inspecting, and packaging devices at the Littleton facility. The successful candidate will be able to relay clear and concise acceptance criteria to the various teams.

8. Manufacturing Engineering: The development manufacturing engineer will be held responsible for seamlessly delivering projects with low scrap rates to the production engineering team. The development manufacturing engineer will keep a pulse on systemic issues arising during ongoing production and adapt development processes and procedures to meet the long-term production goals for the contract manufacturing business department.


Qualifications


What You Will Bring:

Bachelor's Degree in a relevant Engineering field is required (e.g. Mechanical, Metallurgical, Chemical, Biomedical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or Materials Science and Engineering).

What We Will Require From You:

  • 8-10 years of experience supporting manufacturing operations, preferably in the medical device industry under FDA/ISO 13485 design controls. Candidates should be comfortable working in the methodical, structured, and well-documented manner expected in a highly regulated industry.
  • Strong understanding of core manufacturing engineering fundamentals, such as process development, GD&T, GMP, data analysis, statistics, testing/inspection, supplier interaction, structured problem- solving tools, change control, and process/equipment validation.
  • Experience or knowledge in the areas of metallurgy, sieving, electrical safety, laser-marking, chemical etching, wire EDM and automation will also be beneficial for this position.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional environment will be essential to your ability to function effectively at 3D Systems.
  • The successful candidate will have a track record of technical accomplishments in a development role, preferably in the medical device industry.
  • Experience in lean practices such as training within industry, seven deadly wastes, Kaizen, Kata, 3P Production Preparation Practices.
  • Experience designing and manufacturing tooling/fixtures.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching entry level engineers.
  • Strong technical background in additive manufacturing principles pertaining to both metals and/or plastics is a plus.

With the occasional need to review technical information from aerospace and defense customers, a successful candidate for this position will be a U.S. Person.

The Good Stuff:

  • Salary Range: $90,000 - $95,000 annually (salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the candidate, and alignment with market data)
  • In addition to a salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus based upon company performance.
