GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Serves as a Collection Development Senior Librarian in the Resources and Technical Services Division. Performs professional library work to develop and manage library collections that support the library’s mission.

Work is performed with independence under the supervision of the Collection Development Administrative Librarian. Resources and Technical Services is located at the Main Library.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primarily responsible for selection of juvenile and young adult materials in print and ebook formats. Participates in selection of electronic resources. Provides excellent customer service in a team-based environment. Performs public service rotations as needed. Assists with preparation and monitoring of unit budget. Serves on library committees and teams.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Thorough knowledge of library collection development principles, practices and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of books, authors, publishers, and vendors.
  • Thorough knowledge of online bibliographic databases, integrated library systems, electronic selection and acquisitions products and Microsoft Office products.
  • Thorough knowledge of professional library principles, procedures, materials, and practices.
  • Knowledge of online bibliographic databases, integrated library systems, electronic selection and acquisitions products and Microsoft Office products is required.
  • Knowledge and skills using Internet tools and resources.
  • Ability to think analytically and develop new or revised unit procedures and workflow.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and to exercise initiative to solve problems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other library and county employees, library patrons and vendors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.Ability to use personal computers, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software to manage operations, develop or improve analytical tools, prepare special reports, and prepare presentation materials.


REQUIREMENTS:

Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited school and six months of experience in professional library work.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of professional library work with emphasis on collection development.
  • Ability to speak Spanish.
  • Public library experience.
