Kings Mountain is a mining project located in Kings Mountain, NC.
The Geology Team is responsible for geological modeling as well as the resource block model generation. In addition to this, the Geology Team is looking to establish industry best practice for a Production Geology Team. This role will report to Lead Geologist – Kings Mountain. The mining project is looking to move from a project to an active mine site in 2027.
The “Senior Geologist” will have an essential role within the Lithium Resources team and be responsible for developing and managing all drilling programs for resource conversion, near mine exploration and condemnation. With this being drilling management focused role, responsibilities will include, ensuring geology contractors comply with site safety standards, timely communication on drilling plan/schedule to management/community engagement team, ownership of field activities for drilling operations, drill core/RC chips logging, geologic mapping, field sampling best practices. Well-suited candidates should be capable of strategic and critical thinking, collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team, and possess exceptional geologic observation skills.
This is a permanent position to be based in Kings Mountain or surrounding area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Safety leader for all drilling/geology activities. Ability to guide and refine inputs to HSE guidelines to fit with overall corporate policies.
  • Timely communication of geological drilling plans/schedule to relevant stakeholders in ensuring smooth execution of project.
  • Develop and manage drilling programs for resource conversion, near mine exploration and condemnation.
  • Continuous analysis of drilling data/results to identify new locations for potential resource conversion/expansion. Plan additional drill holes accordingly.
  • Maintain and supervise high quality data collection and ensure that relevant information is captured.
  • Maintain a strong line of communication and liaison with the Operations team to ensure geological inputs/requests are understood and executed.
  • Management of core storage facility and core processing activities
  • Knowledgeable in drill core/RC chips logging for lithology, texture, structures, mineralization, and alteration
  • Prepare drill sample shipments and coordinate with assay laboratory for timely turnaround of results. QA/QC checks for returned assay data.
  • Management and acquisition of drilling and sampling logistics
  • Develop and collect bulk/core sample programs for metallurgical testing, business development and environmental permitting purposes.
  • Assist in annual budget planning and project reviews.
  • Assist in establishing a detailed Ore control drilling program to support short range mine planning.
  • Support mine reconciliations to enhance optimization of mining/processing and ensure consistent product specifications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products to include PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency with Maptek Vulcan, Datamine, Leapfrog Geo, or other general mining packages
Education and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in geology or geological engineering
  • Graduate degree in geology or geological engineering is a plus
Experience
  • A minimum of 6 years’ experience in mining for metals/non-metals, with at least 3 of this in an operational mining environment
  • Familiarity with multiple diamond and RC drilling, and prior experience in contract and logistical management of drilling
  • Familiarity with the identification and description of various and applicable rocks and minerals and have familiarity with structural, alteration and mineralization concepts or models, possess exceptional geological observation skills
Requirement
  • Bachelor’s degree in the Geosciences or equivalent required
  • 6 years of experience in mining or managing drill rigs required
  • Excellent safety record required
  • Experience using Leapfrog, Vulcan, or equivalent mining software required
  • Collaborates and communicates with other teams required
  • Proven team leader with problem solving skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills preferred
  • Ability and willingness to work outside in a variety of weather conditions for extended periods of time required
  • Ability and willingness to cross train in the geology team as well as other mining teams preferred
