Role Summary/Purpose:

The Senior Analyst, Model Validation is responsible for model validation related to quantitative analytic modeling with the Synchrony Model Governance and Validation and ensure modeling techniques and results are consistent with the respective strategic uses, models perform as intended, and comply with related MRM policies, standards, procedures as well as regulations.

The position is remote, where you will work from home. On occasion we may request for you to commute to Chicago office for in person engagement activities such as team meetings, training and culture events, etc.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Validate the statistical soundness of credit risk models developed for acquisition, account management, fraud detection and marketing purpose and identify issues requiring further investigation, including those developed using artificial intelligence/machine learning techniques.

  • Perform in-depth analysis on large data sets and assist in the periodic reviews and maintenance of relevant model and model validation documentation.

  • Liaise with the Synchrony finance business teams to uncover and highlight risk associated with models.

  • Prepare reports for senior management and retail finance business teams and facilitate discussions on key analytics.

  • Support regulatory examinations and internal audits of the modeling process and selected model samples.

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign degree equivalent, in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or related quantitative field and 2+ years of work-related experience in a statistical modeling risk analytics position.

  • 2+ years of statistical model related experience (either in school or in workplace) with statistical tools such as SAS, Python, R, Advanced Excel Macros and/or SQL

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or related quantitative field

  • 1 year of work-related experience in a risk analytics position preferred.

  • 2+ years of experience (either in school or in workplace) using large data sets for statistical analysis / modeling and handling large amounts of data and analyzing for trends.

  • The application of regulatory requirements for Model Risk (e.g. SR 11-7/OCC 2011-12).

  • 2 years of experience (either in school or in workplace) in development or testing in Pig, Spark, Python, or similar applications.

  • In-depth theoretical understanding and utilizing modeling techniques supporting one (or more) of the following: Big Data Analytics, Machine Learning, and / or Decision Models (Behavior, Credit, Fraud, etc.)

  • Applicants external to Synchrony who are currently employed on H-1B visa must have at least 2 years of eligibility remaining on their current visa term in order for Synchrony Financial to petition for an employment based visa on behalf of such applicant. L1 visa would be considered for an internal candidate meeting all requirements for the L1 and all US Synchrony eligibility requirements.

    Applicants holding other types of visas, such as F-1 visas, must have at least 2 years of eligibility that would permit them to work for Synchrony.

Grade/Level: 09

The salary range for this position is 56,000.00 - 112,000.00 USD Annual

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA and Metro NY and some positions are bonus eligible.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 24 months’ time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
