Description

Assist in the maintenance of all CTH’s and STH’s where as assigned. Have working knowledge of operation of the following equipment: mower tractors, front end-loaders, motor-graders, chipper, chain saw, brush saws, skid steer, dozer, excavator, roller, various size trucks from pickup to quad-axle dump trucks. This is a seasonal position, working up to 480 hours between May and October.

Examples of Duties

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of highway operations including the operation of mower tractors, front end-loaders, motorgraders, chipper, chain saws, brush saws, skid steer, dozer, excavator, roller, various size trucks from pickup to quad-axle dump trucks.
  • Must produce an accurate account of all materials used, time expended and machinery used in each area of work accomplished.
  • Must have knowledge of or ability to handle various manual tasks from pavement maintenance, roadside drainage, shoulder maintenance, and the operation of snow and ice removal equipment.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, agencies and the public.
  • Knowledge of and experience using personal protective equipment and safety gear.

  • Roadway maintenance and construction.
  • Roadside drainage operations.
  • Mowing and brushing operations.
  • Haul materials for maintenance and construction.
  • Snow plowing and ice removal operations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and maintenance of highway department buildings and grounds.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a State of Wisconsin CDL Class B driver's license with Air Brake endorsement.
  • Telephone to communicate with supervisors.
  • At least 1year previous experience in construction/maintenance. Road maintenance preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Successfully pass a physical examination, CDL drug and alcohol screening.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to sit for extended periods of time and get in and out of equipment.
    • Able to lift up to 75 pounds.
    • Ability to walk on uneven terrain, climb down banks.
    • Ability to work in diverse weather conditions including heat, rain, ice and snow.
    • Ability to push wheel barrow up slopes.
    • Ability to shovel, pound and level various materials.
    • Visual ability requires close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color vision.
    • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
    • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock and vibration.
    • Noise level in the work environment is generally moderate to loud.
    • Work in inclement weather.
