Position Summary

Summary:
In accordance with RCW 28A.310.510, and under the general direction of the Director of Behavioral Health and Prevention Services, the Comprehensive School Safety Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership in comprehensive school safety planning, otherwise referred to as Emergency Operations Planning (EOP). The CSSC is an integral part of the School Safety Center, which includes the Student Threat Management Program and Behavioral Health Navigation Services.
Essential Functions:

• Provide training and consultation to school teams regarding equitable safe schools planning, school safety and security training.
• Facilitate appropriate and trauma-informed plans for crisis and emergency response and recovery.
• Provide real-time support and assistance for school districts in crisis. Offer information, technical assistance, and best practices in responding to school emergencies.
• Planning, coordination, and/or delivery of school district staff training related to safety issues and threat management to maximize quality professional learning.
• Development and planning of comprehensive safety (EOP) plans for districts and schools.
• Provide technical assistance for implementation of equitable and specific safety programs to districts and schools.
• Assist districts in determining cost efficiencies for district-wide and site-based safety efforts.
• Provide training and guidance to local school districts and staff on equitable school safety practices. Depending on the assessed needs of a district or school, trainings might cover such topics as NIMS/ICS, HIB, digital safety, hazing, earthquake-lahar-tsunami preparedness, SROs, trafficking, pandemics, HazMat, reunification planning, and other safety issues which may arise.
• Attend and facilitate school safety meetings at client districts as necessary and in alignment with program goals.
• Assist in the collection of required data on school safety.
• Respond to a variety of inquiries from client districts regarding the appropriate implementation of school safety measures.
• Identify and make available a wide variety of materials including safety plans, budgets, reports, analyses, recommendations, and safety procedures necessary to implement plans.
• Develop and maintain relationships with district contacts, safety vendors and consultants.
• Pursue ongoing professional development on the latest school safety practices and protocols by attending conferences, individual reading, and research.
• Coordinate with colleagues at OSPI, other ESDs and outside agencies. Make presentations and attend meetings and conferences as appropriate.
• Provide other services consistent with state and federal school safety requirements.
• Perform related duties as assigned. Related duties may not specifically be listed but are within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employee’s classification of work.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Willingness to be trained in and apply the Salem-Keizer Threat Assessment Model in support of the Student Threat Assessment program.
• Ability to work with and build relationships with diverse individuals and groups.

• Knowledge of strategies used in adult education and training, and skill in effectively delivering training to adult learners.

• Knowledge of trauma-informed messaging and systems.
• Knowledge and understanding of equity within educational systems.

• Ability to adjust to and utilize new approaches in the performance of his/her duties.
• Ability and willingness to seek out and take advantage of opportunities for professional growth.
• Ability to review and interpret technical information.

Qualifications
Experience as a Program Administrator required. Bachelor’s Degree in related field and 3 years of experience working in education. Master’s Degree in School Administration, Behavioral Health, or Clinical Social Work preferred. Training in threat assessment and emergency operations planning preferred. Experience working with multi-cultural groups, and a familiarity with local area agencies and resources preferred. Valid driver’s license and proof of liability insurance required. WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance required.
Employment Conditions and Benefits
This is a school-year position based on 8 hours per day, 190 days per fiscal year ($55,632.00 - $65,147.20)
