Position Details:

The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University in Pullman, WA invites applications for a full-time 9-month academic year, Assistant Professor, Career Track, in Strategic Communication. Appointment begins August 16, 2023.

Qualifications:

Candidates will have earned a master's degree before the hire date with at least three years of professional experience in a related area (e.g., advertising, public relations, marketing or corporate communication). Successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in the Strategic Communication department, contribute to a professional online MA program in Strategic Communication, and contribute to a professional online MA in Health Communication and Promotion. The successful candidate will teach four courses each semester. Successful candidates may also advise undergraduate student groups and serve as a liaison with the professional community and other outside constituents.

Preferences:

Ability to teach undergraduate classes on the Pullman campus in one or more of the following areas: creative media strategies & techniques for advertising, reasoning and writing, persuasion, digital content promotion, message design and evaluation, communication in global contexts, and crisis communication. Professional experience with content strategy and creation across multiple media platforms and with digital innovations, social media monitoring and analytics, knowledge of software applications relevant to the position (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud products), five years of work experience, and evidence of successful teaching experience. Evidence of potential to contribute to Murrow College's diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Experience advising a student-led firm and leading international and national experiential experiences with students is a plus.

The Murrow College of Communication features two undergraduate departments, Strategic Communication and Journalism and Media Production. The Murrow graduate program includes residential MA and PhD programs as well as professionally oriented online MA programs. Our faculty embrace multiple methodologies and research approaches working within a highly collaborative environment. Murrow College houses top-tier research facilities including a survey lab, focus group facility, interview rooms, and psychophysiological, eye tracking experiment labs.

Annual Salary:

$60,000 to $80,000 | Competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
