Position: Safety Officer

Salary Range: $16.46-22.68

Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Facilities Supervisor

Location: Klamath Open Door

Klamath Health Partnership focuses on the underserved and vulnerable patients to provide medical, dental, behavioral health, and pharmaceutical needs. Our goal is to provide a welcoming, friendly, and safe environment to our patients, visitors, and staff. The Security Officer will act as a visual deterrent to inappropriate aggressive behavior. Maintain a safe and secure environment by patrolling or by walking on site locations to ensure lobby, parking lot, entry and exits are secure. Occasionally respond to calls from lobby front desk to verbally de-escalate and deter potentially volatile patient behaviors to ensure a safe environment. Obtain help by sounding alarms and/or contacting police as needed. Maintain a positive and professional demeanor at all times. Secondary duties will be in support of the Facilities, Safety and/or Patient Resources Department. Formal security and emergency management experience is not required but highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Security Administration and Operations

  • The Security Guard will secure premises and personnel and act as a deterrent to inappropriate behavior, fire prevention, theft, and vandalism by patrolling parking lot, lobby, and access points permitting entry in multiple locations.
  • Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities, informing violators of policy and procedures.
  • Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities, interviewing witnesses and site assessment surveys.
  • Compliance with legal and policy requirements
  • Respond to calls from lobby front desk to verbally de-escalate and deter potentially volatile patient behaviors to ensure a safe environment.
  • Obtain help by sounding alarms and/or contacting police as needed
  • De-escalate and deter potential volatile patient behaviors primarily in the lobby area to ensure a safe environment
  • Notify supervisor and on-site key staff of any irregularities, suspicious activities, security breaches and/or safety hazards.
  • Partner with HR, Safety, Facilities, Patient Resources, Medical and Dental Reception, Pharmacy, Billing, and other departments as needed to resolve and prevent security incidents.
  • Work closely with the Quality Manager to deescalate patient safety concerns and complaints.
  • Provide physical security presence to verbally de-escalate and mitigate threats against KHP property and personnel.
  • Exercise sound operational judgement, as well as flexibility to shifting priorities and challenges.
  • Serve as primary center point for disseminating information regarding security-related incidents.
  • Coordinate contingency plans and emergency medical response for security incidents.
  • Monitor early-warning detection systems, security alarms, and cameras to identify and resolve security risks.
  • Chairs the Safety Committee
  • Support in the development or implementation of initiatives related to Disruptive Behavior, Workplace Violence, and Employee Threat Assessment
  • Secondary duties will be in support of Facilities and/or Patient Resources departments and may vary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Desired Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Current valid and unrestricted U.S. Driver’s License
  • General PC knowledge and demonstrated proficiency using MS Suite (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Demonstrated ability to work calmly under stress in emergency situations; sound judgement skills.
  • One to three years of experience in security
  • Must be able to stand/sit/walk for long periods of time.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must project a professional appearance.
  • CPR, First Aid, Basic Life Support Certified within 3 months of hire.
  • Pass drug screen and background investigation.
  • Demonstrated record of excellent attendance and reliability

Preferred Qualifications but not required:

  • Experience in a healthcare environment
  • Law enforcement, military, emergency operations, or emergency medical experience
  • Excellent surveillance and observation skills
  • Tech-savvy with experience in surveillance systems
  • Proven experience as security officer or guard
  • Valid Security Guard Card or License
  • Successfully completed all state mandated training.
  • Formal security experience
  • Emergency management experience
  • Formal training in verbal de-escalation preferred.
  • Demonstrated strengths of personal integrity, self-confidence
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Support the mission of Klamath Health Partnership.
  • Experience working with electronic health records preferred.
  • Ability to empathize and connect with patients.
  • Bi-lingual: Spanish-speaking preferred
  • Must have demonstrated teamwork skills that contribute directly to critical thinking, planning and cooperation with others in a multi-disciplinary healthcare team.
