Job Title: Architectural Designer

Reports to: Design Manager

Location: Ames, IA

Position Summary: The Architectural Designer works individually and as part of a team to develop and execute architectural drawings for the VP-Project Development and Design Development Management team. The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate and strives to be the best in everything they do. We are looking for an inventive and creative individual who can visualize and illustrate engineered solutions for clients in the Agri-Industrial arena that specialize in storage, cleaning, milling, and processing of agricultural commodities. Expect heavy team interaction for facilities design of multi-million-dollar Feed Mills, Pet food Plants, Oilseed Processing Plants, Grain Elevators, and Flour Mills

Essential Functions:

  • Read and interpret civil, structural, vendor equipment, and metal building drawings.
  • Read, interpret, and apply various building codes and regulations to design concepts.
  • Utilize family creation to illustrate machinery, building components, and annotative details.
  • Prepare process flow diagrams.
  • Prepare door, window, and room schedules.
  • Prepare plan, section, and detail drawings.
  • Review vendor and sub-contractor drawings for accuracy and design coordination.
  • Communicate with sales team, vendors, sub-contractors, architects, engineering, drafting, purchasing and project management
  • Make drawing modifications and changes as required.
  • Maintain and update electronic files.
  • Apply geometry, algebra, and trigonometry to calculate volume, flow rates, and distance.

Required Knowledge/Education/Experience:

  • Demonstrate a knowledge of design concepts.
  • A two-year or four-year degree in Architecture or Construction/Engineering related degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the field.
  • Good working knowledge of the Revit, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Computer, fax machine, telephone, calculator, printer, plotter, and copier
  • Previous design-related work/internship experience is preferred.

  • Team Collaboration: Daily workshopping across-the-table with Project Development/Process Engineers and Structural Engineers to design “best in class” agri-industrial facilities.

Identifies the specific information needed to clarify a situation or to make a decision. Gets more complete and accurate information by checking multiple sources.   • Technical Expertise: Demonstrates the required knowledge to effectively perform drawing tasks. Continues to educate oneself on drawing techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to Meet Deadlines: Completes work with urgency and dedication.
  • Other Qualifications: Must be able to pass a drug screening and background check.

Typical Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. May require lifting up to 50lbs. A normal range of hearing and vision is required.

Working Conditions: Office environment.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
