Residential Support Staff, Overnight
Full Time, 40 hours/week
Sunday- Thursday, 11 pm-7 am

BASIC PURPOSE:

The Residential Support Staff (RSS) is responsible for assisting with the general operations of the Rickman House. These activities are to be accomplished within the framework of established policies and procedures under the overall direction of the Supportive Housing Program Manager (Manager).

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Act as agency/facility representative and primary contact person for Rickman House callers and building visitors; screen and direct calls and visitors as appropriate and according to established procedures.
  • Monitor resident and visitor activities for compliance with program guidelines, intervening when necessary. Effectively utilize security cameras to assist in monitoring resident activity.
  • Provide direct service to residents, including advocacy and referral, crisis intervention, and support as needed.
  • Act as the primary provider of medication assistance during shift including holding medications, monitoring the medication box, prompting residents to take their medication, and making medication-related notations on the resident medication sheets.
  • Provide conflict resolution between residents as necessary to maintain a stable living environment.
  • Handle emergencies as they arise, contacting the appropriate parties for assistance if it is not within your role or ability to resolve the problem.
  • Attend to safety and security issues, including providing instruction and direction to residents in the event of a fire, severe weather, or other emergencies, monitoring activity in the building, and checking and securing all exit doors as required.
  • Complete required paperwork including logging of daily events in a timely and effective manner.
  • Assist with communications and phone messages to and from residents, case managers, or case management teams as needed.
  • Monitor and/or supervise volunteers involved with activities during assigned shifts.
  • Handle receipts, recording, and distribution of donations according to the procedure.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of client contact and interaction per policy and procedure.
  • Assist with maintenance of supplies, including stocking, reporting low inventories, and controlling the distribution of personal care and household supplies.
  • Assist with basic upkeep of the facility, (e.g., help with clean-up of spills, and plugged toilets) in coordination with maintenance staff.
  • Identify and report maintenance problems according to policy and procedure.
  • Keep the Manager informed of any resident problems or concerns, or other issues affecting the operation of the program.
  • Attend staff and agency meetings, and staff training, as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Understands client needs by demonstrating knowledge of community housing and homelessness issues and the organization’s response in providing solutions.
  • Infuses pride in organizational values and mission by acting with integrity, honesty, and knowledge that promotes culture and mission.
  • Execute cross-training/backup processes to meet ongoing direct client services to accomplish the organization’s mission.

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High school diploma/GED required.

Human services experience required, preferably in mental health and/or residential programs.

Experience with crisis intervention techniques preferred.
