Position Highlights

The School of Natural Resources and the Environment is in search of a Research Technician who will assist with field activities related to monitoring Razorback Sucker populations reintroduced into the Verde River, AZ. Field activities occur over a 4-day period each month (~ 40 hrs/ month) and the timing of those trips is dependent on weather. Field activities involve multi-day camping trips, 10+ mile float down the Verde River, carry equipment between 30-50 lbs, tracking Razorback Sucker, and assisting in other aspects of research as they arise.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collecting field data via radiotelemetry equipment.
  • Work in harsh desert environment in a safe and responsible manner to assist with field activities related to monitoring Razorback Sucker populations
  • Drive USGS vehicle to field site in Yavapai County
  • Maintenance of telemetry station, preparing for trips, process raw data, etc.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

  • Ability to drive in off road conditions.
  • Ability to camp for multiple days in the harsh desert environment.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Education or a strong personal interest in natural resources, conservation, fisheries, wildlife, or some related field.
  • Flexible schedule to be able to accommodate changes to travel dates due to weather circumstances.
