Summary:


Ash Grove Cement is looking for a research engineer at the Technical Center in Overland Park, KS. The Ash Grove Technical Center supports our business in product development, sustainability, and innovation projects. The Research Engineer follows a corporate strategic CO2 and clinker factor reduction roadmap. Implementation of relevant technologies and product portfolios at our manufacturing facilities and markets are the key functions. The position is of critical relevance to Ash Grove’s vision for innovation. Exposure and proper handling of confidential information which may have a competitive or intellectual property value to the company or its customers are expected. The person will report to the Technical Center Lab Manager.


What you’ll be contributing:


  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Develop and advance research projects in line with the Ash Grove/CRH innovation strategies
  • Communicate with internal and external workgroups
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge relevant to the cement and concrete field, through academic outreach, professional organizations involvement, and participation in internal and external training
  • Provide data-driven solutions for process and product improvement, and advance applicable innovation concepts into product portfolio in a cost-efficient and timely manner
  • Interact with production facilities, and serve as a technical expert to troubleshoot issues and optimize operations
  • Organize project records and present the findings to key stakeholders. Keep track of decisions, and action plans made during those meetings
  • Take direction to complete Ash Grove clinker factor reduction, IP/IT product development projects through lab product development and industrial trials, with accurate results and sound technical interpretations
  • Travel for training/support to various Ash Grove Cement locations, and communicate with internal/external customers, university researchers, and innovators (15-20% travel)
  • Other duties as assigned


To succeed in this position, you will need:


  • The candidate should hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in technical, engineering or scientific background.
  • At least 3 years of experience in research and project delivery required

  • Working knowledge of cement manufacturing and concrete production, admixture technologies required

  • Demonstrated experience in new products or process development, preferably in the technical field of cement/concrete materials

  • Proven experience in people coordination and network creation

  • Ability to multitask. Handles non-routine, challenging work at a short notice, and delivers satisfying results dependably

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Capable of simultaneously managing multiple technical projects with direct technical contribution.
  • Understanding of reporting requirements, tools and processes
  • A self-starter who can effectively work within a fast moving and innovation driven team culture, committed to grow within and outside the manufacturing & technical services team
