This is a Temporary Grant Funded Position.
Job Roles
- Conduct complex data management through use of software programming techniques.
- Perform in-depth statistical analyses.
- Assist in the development of data acquisition protocols.
- Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and grant applications.
- Work closely with internal and external researchers.
- Apply good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions to research-related challenges.
- Possess the capacity to independently acquire and apply additional knowledge and skills to meet the research goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Design and Development
- Independently design relational data bases and interface with open source relational data base management tools.
- Independently troubleshoot data entry, data processing procedures, and database efficiency and accuracy.
- Independently develop robust statistical analysis plans including conducting literature searches to support decision making about adapting standard statistical methods, and developing innovative approaches to meet challenges of data analysis.
- Consult and advise principal investigators and other researchers on the planning and implementation of major research projects with complex study designs, and the use of appropriate statistical tests so that valid conclusions can be drawn.
Statistical Analysis
- Independently perform data analysis (e.g., longitudinal and multilevel modeling, survival analysis, sample size estimation, etc.) using statistical software packages such as R, SAS, or STATA.
- Independently document all statistical software coding and systematically archive results from analyses.
- Independently address the statistical considerations of model selection, model diagnostics, and significance testing.
- Independently create publication quality tables, graphical summaries, and other visualizations.
- Consult and advise principal investigators and other researchers on the interpretation of the results of analyses.
Dissemination of Results
- Independently draft methods/analysis section of manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals.
- Co-author (or first author) manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals.
- Collaborate with principal investigators and other researchers on developing the most effective graphical and tabular presentation of data for presentations.
Support Students and Fellows
- Advise and assist MPH, PhD, and medical students, as well as medical residents and fellows, on statistical issues for research projects requiring moderate to complex statistical methods.
Education/Certifications/Licenses/Registrations
- Master’s degree in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology or related field required.
Experience/Specialized skills (including Language)
- Minimum 4 years of experience functioning as a statistician in an academic or medical research environment.
- Experience understanding and rapidly absorbing different research content areas and assimilating statistical and biological/medical hypotheses.
- Broad knowledge of public health and clinical practice.
- Demonstrated experience in health research.
- Strong background in computer science related to statistical modeling in conducting analyses.
- Advanced knowledge of statistical packages including R, SAS, or STATA.
- Demonstrated experience in solving complex problems related to research modeling of data and statistics.
- Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, maintaining, and using large and complex databases.
- Demonstrated experience working at a sophisticated level with complex statistical methods and models incorporating a broad range of variable types.
- Demonstrated experience analyzing longitudinal data with repeated measures using generalized estimating equations, mixed effect models, trajectory analyses, etc.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of people from principal investigators and other researchers to support staff throughout the institution.

If you are hired at Family Health Centers of San Diego, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, jurisdictional requirements, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to these factors – we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
