Description of Work Unit
Description of Work Unit The Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology (MIP) Department is comprised of over 400 individuals who share a common passion for solving some of the most important human and animal health problems today. Research programs include those related to mycobacteria, retroviruses, prions, and arthropod-borne infectious diseases, as well as the diagnostic investigation of naturally-occurring animal diseases. The Regan laboratory is located within the Flint Animal Cancer of Colorado State University. The Flint Animal Cancer Center (FACC) at Colorado State University (CSU) is the largest facility devoted to the use of companion animals as an advanced system to study issues relevant to both companion animal and human cancers in the world (www.csuanimalcancercenter.org ). The FACC currently consists of 26 faculty members with training and expertise in the varying disciplines of cancer pharmacology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, molecular oncology, and tumor immunology. These faculty members have acquired funding from the NIH, the Department of Defense, Morris Animal Foundation, private foundations, and the pharmaceutical industry. Additionally, the FACC currently provides mentorship to 8 medical/radiation oncology veterinary residents, and 12 PhD students/post-doctoral fellows. The research facility consists of a state-of-the-art, two-story 35,000 sq. ft. building, with fully equipped laboratories, equipment, and shared resources that will be fully accessible to the applicant. The FACC continues to pursue a cure for cancer through our clinical oncology service, clinical trials, and advanced clinical and research training for veterinarians.

Position Summary
This Research Scientist position will oversee a research program focused on cancer metastasis biology and comparative oncology, by supporting a senior scientist to conduct advanced research on this topic, handle the day-to-day supervision and training of students and post-doctoral fellows, and lead publication writing, data management and statistical analyses. This position will also oversee general lab manager responsibilities including inventory and ordering.

Specifically, this individual will assist with projects involving human and canine tumor cell line culture, and primary lung fibroblast cell culture, specifically including breast and bone cancer cell lines and 2D conventional, 3D matrix-based spheroid, and 3D tumor-lung fibroblast co-culture. Using these in vitro experimental systems, the scientist will complete human and canine tumor cell line drug response assays, and molecular and immune-based analyses. This individual will also work with tumor cell lines, murine tumor tissues and canine patient clinical specimens (blood, bodily fluids, tumor biopsies) for analyses to include flow cytometry, single cell and bulk mRNA sequencing, and protein/signal transduction analyses.

Required Job Qualifications
Doctorate degree in research or related field, one to two years experience as a postdoctoral scientist, one to two years experience in cancer biology wet lab and computational research.

Preferred Job Qualifications
Experience in single cell RNA sequencing data processing and analysis, especially for non-traditional species such as dogs. Teaching experience in a supervised setting (e.g. as a graduate teaching assistant)
