Remote Field Research Data Collector Job at Penn State University

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Survey Research Center at Penn State is currently looking to hire field research staff to conduct remote observations in elementary school classrooms.

Successful candidates will be able to follow a very specific protocol; be available to attend mandatory 2 - 4 day paid training in September or October; be available to work from September/October through May and also available to work as needed during the school day (8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.). Hours worked per week will vary based on time of year, with the busiest times being in September/October, January, and April/May.

Applicants should have regular and reliable access to internet service. Must have research experience or experience working with elementary-aged children; have strong reading and verbal skills and have basic experience with computer and Internet technology. Must be capable of establishing and maintaining a good rapport with study respondents; be self-motivated, reliable, organized, and detail-oriented; have the ability to keep detailed records of all work activities and administrative tasks; pass a criminal record check and obtain required clearances.

The desirable criteria are: previous research experience; have an education or psychology background; obtained a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree; have experience working or teaching in school settings; have experience conducting observations in classroom settings.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
