Job Summary

The Regional Welding Engineer is responsible to provide technical support, training, auditing, testing and monitoring of our welding processes to increase productivity and ensure compliance to local, international, customer Palfinger standards to include the highest Quality standards of our Palfinger products across North America. This role reports to the Regional Quality Manager offering a competitive compensation package and opportunity for on-going career growth.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • collaborate with local leadership to set up proper organization and qualification of welding coordination and NDT personal as well as collaborate for their training and personal growth
  • Responsible to provide technical support and monitoring processes to ensure that site and regional objectives are met with regards to Palfinger’s welding standards.
  • Prepare technical reports from research, participating in training-development and for the development of preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Develop, train and implement processes and production preparation plans for new welders, consumables, welding equipment, and products.
  • Develops and maintains work instructions in compliance with WPS (welding procedure specifications), PQR (procedure qualification records) and WPQR (Welding performance qualification records) requirements.
  • Auditing of North American plants, dealers and weldment suppliers to required welding standards
  • management of AWS and Palfinger welding standards
  • Other duties as assigned by the NAM Regional Quality Manager
  • Support at investments of new welding and related equipment to increase productivity and manage the qualification after installation including documentation
  • Interface, communication and coordination with global welding department
  • Authorized to place parts and equipment on hold and decide about repair or scrap, as well as approve or annul welder cert`s and communication with production and local managers

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Prefer AWS Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng), but minimum Certified Weld Supervisor (CWS) or Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) and Certified Weld Educator (CWE)
  • 5-10 years auditing, training and monitoring quality in welding or another similar mechanical field
  • 3 years supervising others
  • Prefer 5 years of experience in crane manufacturing or steel welding, experience with high strength steels preferred
  • Good knowledge of AWS Welding codes for structural steel and related standards
  • Good knowledge of multiple welding processes, especially GMAW processes
  • Understanding of all NDT processes
  • Quality control engineering background in a welding application
  • Able to read welding drawings, weld symbols, weld designs and specifications
  • CREO and SAP are a plus, but not required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to travel 75% of time
