Sports & Recreation Coordinator

POSITION DESCRIPTION


Organization: Boys & Girls Club of Portage County (non-profit, youth service)

Hours: Summer Seasonal, Hourly (35-38 hours per week)

Location: Berard Center (Stevens Point), Plover Center

Reports to: Director/Site Coordinator


Position Summary:

Major responsibility is to effectively plan, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate programs, activities and special events that engage members in the area of Sports & Recreation for youth grades 1st – 12th.


Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

  • Appropriate level of participation in sports and recreational activities
  • Standing or walking for up to 8 hours a day
  • Pushing or Lifting of up to 50lbs
  • Ability to handle high noise level for extensive periods of time.

Skills / Knowledge Required:

  • Ability to be trained in First Aid/CPR
  • Degree or pursuing a degree in Physical Education
  • Prior experience working with children is preferred but not required
  • Communicate effectively with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Courteous and professional to all staff, club members, and families.
  • Motivate youth and manage behavior problems
  • Work with the general public
  • Organize and supervise club members in a safe environment
  • Must be able to pass a reference check and background check

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Planning, organizing and implementing a range of program services and activities that prepare youth for success through sports and recreation
  • Direct encouragement in the participation of programs at the Club.
  • Create and maintain a healthy and safe environment through supervising members in the program area.
  • Ability to work both independently and part of a team.
  • Supervise and discipline of members participating in programs and services within the program area as well as through the Club as deemed appropriate.
  • Implement goals, objectives, policy procedures, and work standards for assigned programs.
  • Ensure quality improvement by monitoring and evaluating program achievement against target goals, recommending and implementing modifications that respond to member needs and interests.
  • Train and manage assigned volunteers and provide ongoing evaluation and feedback.
  • Secure, maintain, and monitor materials, equipment and other resources belonging to the program area(s).
  • Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of program area(s).
  • Submit a biweekly schedule outlining daily program activities to site director
  • Reading and answering email promptly; carrying out directives by supervisor, communication of needs at least on week in advance for materials and supplies.
  • Create and take part in overall recruitment for the leagues and special events/programs.
  • Assist in creating and organizing various sports leagues during the year.
  • Ensure Triple Play is constantly changing and exciting; members should learn new games as well as general health.
  • Ensure the Club participates in all nationally sanctioned Triple Play programs and grant requirements.
  • Purchase of supplies and equipment with supervisor approval.
  • Must be able to keep up on an athletic level with the members; being involved in the games as well as monitoring them.
  • Work with staff on special events to carry out programs.
  • Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance and discipline plan.
  • May be required to drive Club van
  • Handle other duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary or important as assigned by the Plover Unit Director, and Director of Club Site Operations.
  • Recruit members through contact with schools, media, and special events.
  • Create and take part in over recruitment for special events/programs.
  • Flexibility to work Club hours especially as seasons and service needs change.
