Job Summary of the PRN Radiology Technologist
The Radiologic Technologist will coordinate services and activities specific to the Imaging area. Monitors all technical clerical functions, which include efficient patient throughput and effective utilization of equipment and human resources, based upon patient load. The Rad Tech is responsible for performing radiographs by applying x-ray energy according to the standards and practices set forth by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, the American College of Radiology and the Texas Medical Board to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images for the interpretation by or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. Ensures that patient safety, health and welfare come first by optimizing imaging examinations to use only the radiation necessary to produce diagnostic-quality images. Applies knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span to identify patient and family requirements relative to age-specific needs. Exercises professional judgment in performances of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics.
Participates in providing patient specific care standards as directed, and follows service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction.
Responsibilities of the PRN Radiology Technologist
  • Perform all diagnostic radiographic procedures including ER, surgical, fluoroscopic and portable radiographs
  • Select and operate radiography equipment, imaging and/or associated accessories to successfully perform procedures.
  • Select appropriate protocols to obtain desired results.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
  • Document, on the images or in writing, information seen during exam.
  • Relay to physicians any relevant patient information.
  • Follow all hospital guidelines regarding radiation protection and applies principles of radiation safety to minimize risk to patient, self and others.
  • Provide optimum patient care during exams.
  • Operate all computer systems (Meditech, RAD module, OE, PCI, PACS, etc.) that relate to the individual’s job assignment and department operations.
  • Participate in call rotation as needed
  • Perform other department related duties as needed and assigned.
Qualifications of the PRN Radiology Technologist

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Required: Graduate of an educational program in radiology accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or graduate of an American Medical Association approved program in Radiologic Technology or a military training program of equivalent standards.
  • Preferred: Associates Degree or higher in Radiologic Technology. One year as a previous experience as a Rad Tech.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:

  • Required: Licensed Medical Radiologic Technologist with the Texas Medical Board or Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist with the Texas Department of State Health Services; Registered Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, post- primary certification in Computed Tomography (ARRT (R)). If hired prior to 4/13/2012 and has been performing x-rays since 1987 AND was grandfathered in by the state of Texas, only CMRT required.
  • BLS certification as per SDH policy.
