JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Director of Radiology, the Radiology Clerk is responsible for performing important functions related to patient care. Radiology clerks are responsible for ensuring the clinical history and medical information for the patient is appropriate for the exam/procedure being ordered; therefore knowledge of medical terminology and medical imaging such as X-ray, Mammography, MRI, CT, Ultrasound and PET is essential for the position. Radiology clerks perform clerical and non-clerical duties, which may include filing, scheduling outpatient biopsies and procedures, ensuring that medical necessity is obtained, initiating pre-authorization, processing orders, verifying orders, sorting, answering phones, greeting patients, lifting/positioning patients and transporting patients to and from the Radiology Department. May be required to assist Technologist with patient care. May be exposed to ionizing radiation. Able to communicate professionally with physicians and other staff members.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:

1. High School diploma required.

2. Previous office and/or Radiology experience and medical terminology preferred.

3. Previous Nurse Aide experience preferred.

4. BCLS required within 6 months.

.5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

6. Ability to work independently, while managing several multi step projects simultaneously.

7. Computer and word processing skills required.

8. Accurate typing skills of 40 wpm.

9. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day.

10. Must be able to speak the English language fluently.

11. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

12. Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

13. Must occasionally perform tasks involving offensive patient care activities, where it is possible to be exposed to disagreeable odors, bodily fluids and communicable diseases..

14. Understands and appropriately utilizes Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

15. Able to push and pull patients, weighing up to 350 pounds, with assistance, in wheelchairs or carts.

16. Must keep patients safe.
