Permanent Transfer Candidates: Current DOH employee with permanent or contingent-permanent competitive status as a Public Health Nutritionist 1; OR New York State employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service in a title at or above Grade 20 and eligible for transfer under Section 70.4 of the Civil Service Law by meeting the Open Competitive minimum qualifications listed below.

Public Open Competitive Minimum Qualifications (Provisional Opportunity):

A. You must be a Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) currently registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

AND

B. you must have two years of full-time professional experience, after successful completion of the Registration Examination for Dietitians, in the field of nutrition or dietetics.

Substitution: A Master's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Health, Public Health, Public Administration, Health (Care/Services) Administration, Nutrition Education, Health Education, Community Health, Health Care Policy and Management, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work/Social Welfare, Human and Social Services, Early Childhood Education, or Public Policy may be substituted for one year of experience.

Candidates, please provide your Commission on Dietetic Registration certification number on your cover letter or resume, or a copy of your certification card, with your application.

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have professional experience in a multi-faceted public health nutrition program; strong writing, communication, analytical, and organizational skills; and a strong command of public health as it relates to child and maternal nutrition.

Duties Description

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) offers nutrition education, breastfeeding support, referrals, and a variety of nutritious foods to low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women, infants, and children up to age five to promote and support good health.

The Public Health Nutritionist (PHN) 1 will work in the Food Delivery Vendor Management Section (FDVMS) and will oversee several aspects related to food benefits for WIC participants. The incumbent will provide oversight and assist with the maintenance of the NYS Approved Product List (APL) and the NYS WIC Acceptable Foods Card. Additionally, this PHN 1 will be responsible for assisting with food and formula contract management and communications to food and formula manufacturers. The incumbent will also play a vital role in the management of the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program, including oversight of the Fruit and Vegetable Pilot Program.

Additional Comments
Contingent permanent or provisional, full-time, appointment. Travel to areas not served by public transportation is required (5%). Transfer candidates, you may be asked for a Social Security Number to verify your transfer eligibility. Provisional opportunities are pending canvass outcome.
