Summary:
A Psychiatric Technician practicing at this level is inexperienced in providing care for psychiatric patients. The Psychiatric Technician will possess a high school diploma. The Psychiatric Technician will be given the opportunity to explore a variety of patient care experiences, including co-facilitating treatment activities, understanding the concept of milieu and working within an inter-disciplinary team. As the Psychiatric Technician gains experience, he/she will be given increased responsibilities in providing patient care. Performs any duties and/or responsibilities assigned by Manager or Supervisor for which qualified.

Responsibilities:
  • Carries out daily patient assignment and assists other staff members as needed.
  • Responds to patient call for assistance.
  • Understands needs of patient to complete ADL’s and assists as needed, per scope of practice.
  • Monitors patient intake of food and fluids; assists and feeds as needed; recognizes dietary concerns and reports to charge nurse.
  • Understands needs of patient regarding admission, discharge and transfer. Assists as needed.
  • Accompanies patients both on and off grounds for appointments and therapeutic activities.
  • Accurately documents patient care as described in the policy and procedure for nursing documentation.
  • Encourages and facilitates patient participation in all appropriate milieu activities.
  • Recognizes changes in patient status and reports to charge nurse.
  • Co-facilitates groups with other nursing staff for 1st 90 days; facilitates nursing groups after 90 days.
  • Attends report at change of shift as assigned. Provides relevant information to team members.
  • Attends team meetings when assigned.
  • Establishes therapeutic rapport and maintains appropriate boundaries with patients.
  • Recognizes age related needs and provides patient care accordingly.

Additional Notes:

  • The position duties are to support the group room.
  • This person will be assigned a group of kids for the full 10 weeks run by a licensed clinician.
  • Your job would be to help with redirecting behaviors, getting snacks and meals handed out, taking kids on bathroom breaks, participating in groups with the kids to help keep them engaged and help deescalate any behaviors that may come up while in group.
  • There are times when we get kids who may become aggressive and we do teach MOAB, Management of aggressive behaviors, here to learn how to properly place a child in a hold to keep everyone safe. This doesn’t happen often, but it does happen on occasions.
  • There would be another psych tech in the room with you as well so it would be 3 staff, 2 techs and the clinician.
  • The goal is to have 12 kids show up daily in each room so we typically admit 14 patients knowing some will not show or be out for various reasons.
  • We are outdoors a lot and mainly focus on increasing the kids' social interactions and emotion regulation!
  • This is a posted as a pool position, but candidates are needed to work fulltime hours for the 10 week stretch of summer which will be from June 19 to August 25,, 2023, accommodations can be considered in and around that time period.
