Kings Mountain is a mining project located in Kings Mountain, NC.
The Geology Team is responsible for geological modeling as well as the resource block model generation. In addition to this, the Geology Team is looking to establish industry best practice for a Production Geology Team. This role will report to Lead Geologist – Kings Mountain. The mining project is looking to move from a project to an active mine site in 2027.
The “Project Geologist” role will be essential within the Lithium Resources team, and will assist with the coordination of drilling programs for resource conversion, near mine exploration and condemnation. Under the guidance of a Senior Geologist, the Geologist will assist in setting high safety standards for geology contractors, communicate drill plan/schedule to stakeholders, support in field activities for drilling operations, log drill core/RC chips, participate in geological mapping, maintain field sampling best practices. Well-suited candidates should be capable of collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team, and be self-motivated to enhance their geological observation skills.
This is a permanent position to be based in Kings Mountain or surrounding area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Contribute to safety initiatives on geology drilling activities.
  • Communicate geological drilling plans/schedule to relevant stakeholders
  • Assist in planning programs for resource conversion, near mine exploration and condemnation drilling
  • Assist in analyzing drilling data/results to identify locations for potential resource conversion/expansion.
  • Support in the collection of high quality data and ensure that relevant information is captured.
  • Participate in core processing activities including logging and sampling.
  • Self-motivated to enhance skills in drill core/RC chips logging for lithology, texture, structures, mineralization, and alteration
  • Assist in documenting and preparing drill sample shipments
  • Assist in the acquisition of drilling and sampling logistics
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products to include PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with Maptek Vulcan, Datamine, Leapfrog Geo, or other general mining packages
Education and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in geology or geosciences
  • Graduate degree in geology or geosciences is a plus
Experience
  • Minimum experience required is 0-3 years for early career or 3-6 years for mid-career geologist in mining environment
  • Familiarity with diamond and RC drilling an advantage
  • Familiarity with identification and description of various and applicable rocks/minerals and motivated to enhance geological observation skills.
Requirement
  • Bachelor’s degree in the Geosciences or equivalent required
  • 0-3 years of experience in mining environment
  • Excellent safety record required
  • Experience using Leapfrog, Vulcan, or equivalent mining software required
  • Collaborates and communicates with other teams required
  • Problem solving skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills preferred
  • Ability and willingness to work outside in a variety of weather conditions for extended periods of time required
  • Ability and willingness to cross train in the geology team as well as other mining teams preferred
