Title: Project Coordinator


Job Description:

The Project Coordinator of the Business Development Department has responsibility to perform a variety of business development and promotional activities between U.S. and Japanese businesses.

These activities include the following: to promote and assist US foreign direct investment into Japan (“Invest Japan”); to support Japanese start-ups and other companies’ business expansion and new investment into the US; and to support Japanese academia’s initiatives in the U.S.


Various responsibilities may include:

  • to have the capability to build and sustain his/her own business network among companies and business-related organizations by online outreach and by attending various in-person events, seminars, exhibitions, conferences, etc.
  • to assist Japanese/U.S. companies to explore the business opportunities in the U.S./Japan and to promote business collaboration.
  • to organize seminars, exhibitions, business meetings, and lectures, and to give support to individual businesses for project planning and implementation for each industry.
  • to prepare and submit media releases, periodical newsletters, and webpages about our activities regarding trade and investment to the government, economic organizations and the media. In addition, provide assistance for presentation materials related to lectures and seminars.
  • to provide prompt and appropriate responses to various external inquiries independently and respond to advanced matters by consulting with superiors.
  • Internally, to prepare for any necessary documentation to organize events and increase attendance.

The role of the Project Coordinator includes administrative roles in support of the Executive Director and/or Director. In some cases in which projects are conducted by more than one department, the Project Coordinator assigned to the projects may be asked to work under the direction of Directors of another department.


The Project Coordinator acts in finding prospective business interests from US-based companies and facilitates their activities with the objectives of the above-mentioned functions of the office. The Project Coordinator is also required to assist the Executive Director and/or Director in planning, arranging, organizing, or managing projects (example: holding seminars/conferences, receiving investment delegations, and other related activities) to support the Business Development Department to fulfill its missions and goals.


Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher.

Must be legally able to work in the United States.


Minimum Skills Required:

  • Good Japanese speaking and writing skills is preferred, but not necessary.
  • Strong communication skills, especially listening and writing skills
  • Strong business presentation capabilities
  • Good knowledge or understanding of Japan, and/or businesses, global economies, business transactions/ activities, including trade and direct investment
  • Strong IT skills (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and more) and ability/willingness to learn new skills (Salesforce, etc)
  • Ability to accurately proofread and edit promotional and/or public affairs materials
  • Strong interpersonal skills for team building
  • Ability to thrive in a multi-cultural setting
  • Ability to organize and accurately file paperwork /online files
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a timely manner
  • Ability to independently learn new skills and concepts as well as understanding of industry trends and business needs
  • Experience in a public relations and/or business/marketing position is welcome
