First Ascent in Arlington Heights is seeking to hire a Program Manager who will be responsible for the entirety of programs at FA Arlington Heights. These programs include Youth Rec Classes, Guided Sessions, Adult Climbing Classes, Group Events, and Yoga. The Program Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and performance of the gym's programming, including booking, scheduling, staffing, coordinating, and evaluating programs to ensure we provide climbers with a fantastic experience. As the Program Manager, you will be an integral part of the FA team and will be working every day to grow the climbing community. The Program Manager role requires someone with exceptional communication and organizational skills who is results-oriented and thrives working as part of a team. The Program Manager reports directly to the Arlington Heights Gym Manager.

Youth Rec Classes
The Program Manager is in charge of hiring, training, and staffing our Youth Rec programs. An ideal candidate will seek to further develop our Youth Rec curriculum to grow and expand the program to an even wider variety of ages and experience levels. The Program Manager is also expected to audit Youth Rec programs each quarter to ensure the programs we offer our community are delivering a fantastic experience for kids and their families.

Adult Climbing Classes
First Ascent offers 3 different core climbing educational classes; Learning to Boulder, Learning the Ropes, and Learning to Lead. The Program Manager is responsible for hiring, training, and staffing instructors for all three classes. The Program Manager is expected to maintain class curriculums and ensure the material we teach aligns with current industry standards. The Program Manager is also expected to audit lessons each quarter for quality assurance and evaluate opportunities to add new classes or workshops to meet the needs of the community.

Guided Sessions
First Ascent offers Guided Sessions for those seeking a more hands-on introduction to climbing. The Program Manager is in charge of hiring, training, and staffing Guides, while also working to determine the number of Guided Sessions offered at the facility based on program popularity and demand as well as assessing the quality of Guided Sessions.

Group Events
The Program Manager is responsible for booking and scheduling all Group Events. They are also in charge of properly staffing each event and training Group Leads to spearhead events.

Gym Events, Workshops, & Meetups
The Program Manager is expected to work in tandem with the Gym Manager to host special events each month, such as member meetups, climbing, yoga or fitness workshops, community engagement events, and seasonal parties.

Yoga
The Program Manager will work with the Yoga Coordinator to ensure there is a high-quality yoga program at FA Arlington Heights. Responsibilities include evaluating the effectiveness of current classes and instructors, making seasonal adjustments to the class schedule, and assisting with class coverage when needed.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

The ideal individual for this position is extremely organized, self-driven, and willing to put in the work to ensure FA Arlington offers quality programs. This position is primarily a high-level administrative role, and, because of that, the ideal candidate will possess exemplary verbal and written communication skills. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of management experience, preferably in the fitness or recreation industry.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of climbing equipment and proper belay technique
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office-based systems, as well as strong computer skills
