The Program Financial Analyst works under the direction of the UWMC accounting manager to establish processes, controls and assurances that cash and program activity is properly monitored, recorded and reconciled. The analyst must have a strong customer service orientation, a focus on delivering accurate, timely and actionable financial accounting information, exceptional analytical skills, initiative, and the ability to create complex spreadsheets and reconciliations to support their work. The Analyst must demonstrate and possess a resourceful and flexible approach to solving problems, be able to function well independently and must be able to diagnose, document and resolve errors through the use of inquiry and reconciliations.

This individual will play a key role supporting implementations, upgrades, testing and training for the upcoming UW Workday ERP go-live, and other systems expected to further streamline and standardize processes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Daily cash activity downloads for internal customers, reconciliations and reporting, ensuring cash is posted to the correct GL account.

  • Daily and monthly banking, credit card, NSF, coin order and other reconciliations.

  • Effectively research unidentifed deposits received, ensuring the timely identification and credit to the proper department or entity using journal entries or interaffiliate transfers.

  • Review and record monthly parking and cafeteria sales and related taxes.

  • Perform the EPIC patient cash clearing reconciliation, working with patient financial services and SBO cash accountant to resolve variances.

  • Identify, develop and implement workflow efficiencies and controls over cash and accounting processes.

  • Provide timely research and response to information requests from UW, hospital operations, and related UWM entities.

  • Ability to effectively identify and resolve variances and process exceptions.

  • Provide transaction support and respond to inquiries related to the annual financial audit.

  • Ensure internal control processes are in place and monitored for compliance; conduct annual verification counts of hospital change funds.

  • Provide subject matter expertise, testing, training and change management support related to the upcoming implementation of the enterprise and general ledger system, Workday.

  • Build effective, collaborative working relationships throughout the organization.

  • Represent UW Medicine Accounting on committees or task forces and perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or related field is required.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with day-to-day accounting operations in a large, complex organization. Healthcare experience preferred

  • Advanced skill level using General Ledger applications and supporting software programs, including Excel and Word

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and GASB Accounting Standards

  • Record of success in managing within a complex organization and with a strong collaborative working style. Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
