Position Summary:

The Community College system offers two-year degree and certificate programs in a broad range of liberal arts, career, health, occupational and technical studies in order to meet the varied learning needs of the populations served. These programs prepare students for occupations and careers in a variety of practical and occupational fields. The programs include both classroom instruction and applied practice.

The Program Director manages one or more of these programs at a Community College. The position’s role includes program needs assessment, development, marketing, program accreditation and administrative oversight of classroom and clinical instruction. At some colleges, the Program Director may also be responsible for teaching up to two courses within the program.

Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in a field related to higher education administration or the professional discipline of the programs’ subject areas together with from two to five years of experience in a related field with one to two years of experience in the supervision of others; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.

Incumbents are required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following:

  • Professional competence in one or more of the assigned subject disciplines;

  • Academic curriculum and course design;

  • Assessment and evaluation techniques in academic program effectiveness;

  • Strong familiarity with accreditation procedures and strategies;

  • Developing and managing operating budgets and plans;

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching courses in media or new media production technologies,
  • Experience with professional studio and field production technologies.
  • Experience overseeing community and/or corporate partnerships.
  • Experience with online instruction and delivery methods using platforms such as Blackboard.
  • Experience with curriculum development and program assessment
  • Experience supervising Full- or Part-Time faculty, student workers and interns

Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Dean or other administrator, the Program Director of New Media is accountable for development and delivery of degree and certificate programs meeting the instructional goals of the College through effective performance in these essential duties:

  • Program development and accreditation;

  • Faculty selection and professional development;

  • Instructional quality;

  • Administration and resource management;

  • Budget and fiscal management;

  • Program evaluation and assessment

In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the incumbent is required to carry out the essential duties of: Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; Service on assigned committees and task forces; Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings. These may involve attendance at evening or weekend events.

Starting Salary:

Anticipated Salary; $77,003 approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits.
