Brown Emergency Medicine (Brown EM) is the academic emergency medicine physician group for the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Brown EM provides emergency department staffing for Rhode Island hospital, the only Level I trauma center in the region; Hasbro Children's Hospital, Rhode Island's only children's specialty hospital; The Miriam Hospital, a leading community teaching hospital; and Newport Hospital, a community Magnet Hospital.

Brown EM is looking for a Residency Program Coordinator who is responsible for the administration of the residency program as outlined in the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Emergency Medicine Program requirements and institutional graduate medical education guidelines. The Residency Program Coordinator provides administrative support to the Program Director of the residency program, Chief Residents, and acts as an educational coordinator between attending physicians, residents, fellows, medical students, and institutional and regulatory administrative offices.

The expectations for this job are as follows, but not limited to:

  • Serves as Administrative Assistant to the Program Director
  • Acts for and regularly makes decisions on behalf of the Program Director, within prescribed limits of authority and represents the Program Director to other hospital offices, the public or outside agencies in administrative matters.
  • Manages and coordinates the daily operations and logistics for the Brown EM Residency Program
  • Maintains documentation of curriculum, accreditation documents, manuals, conference handouts, manuscripts, etc., and responds to inquiries regarding residency, fellowship, student rotations, and other training issues.
  • Recruitment of residents during residency recruitment/interview season including all the planning of recruitment events, ERAS navigation, interviews, rank lists, post recruitment communications, etc.
  • Onboarding new house staff and planning all aspects of orientation.
  • Planning all aspects of graduation
  • Initiates and maintains departmental budget including projections of future needs and other financial processes of the department (e.g., facilitate reimbursement).
  • Maintains compliance with and up-to-date knowledge of current ACGME accreditation and institutional graduate medical education requirements.
  • Liaisons between the ACGME and institutional graduate medical education office

The qualifications for this job are as follows:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Three to five years of administrative experience required.
  • Experience in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork skills and emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with computer applications, online resources, and equipment utilized by the department and institution.
