Job Summary:

The Production Superintendent is responsible for managing the safe and reliable operation of the Ammonia No. 1 plant in an environmentally compliant and efficient manner. In addition to the production of ammonia, the Production Superintendent is responsible for the treatment of water and production of steam for consumption in the South Complex of the Port Neal facility. This position directs, develops, and manages the personnel and day-to-day activities required to meet the above objectives, as well as company goals. Planning, coordinating, communicating and controlling are major responsibilities of this position.

Job Description:

Key Job Elements:

1. Embraces safety and environmental stewardship as a core value of leadership and works to positively influence site environmental, health and safety culture. Demonstrates and promotes support for the company and site EHS policy, programs and goals.

2. The Superintendent is a key leader of EHS excellence in the Production department. Actively participates as an operations member of the supervisory team that identifies and controls issues that may impact team member health and safety performance.

3. The Superintendent holds Production Supervisors and personnel accountable for demonstrating CF’s Do It Right values and engaging in continuous improvement of systems and culture.

4. Manages, coaches, and develops the Shift Supervisors, Day Supervisor and the ammonia production technicians.

5. Monitors plant conditions and takes necessary corrective actions to maintain safe and reliable operation. Coordinates with EHS, Maintenance and Engineering to achieve the above objectives.

6. Develops and maintains relationships with other departments to foster responsive and effective support for the objectives of Ammonia No. 1.

7. Coordinates with the Engineering and Maintenance Departments to ensure assets in the plant are properly inspected and maintained.

8. Identifies opportunities for improvement and works with resources to implement solutions.

9. Prepares the ammonia plant operating strategy, production plan and department budget to meet company objectives. Executes the plan.

10. Maintains effective programs in safety, cost control and reporting and manpower training, development and utilization.

11. Acts on one’s own initiative and coordinates actions to plans of the Production Manager.

Position Requirements:

1. Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical or electrical engineering preferred.

2. 7+ years of experience with synthesis gas production, steam reformation or hydrocarbon processing.

3. Demonstrated experience in safety leadership and process safety management.

4. Possess the following competencies in relation to chemical manufacturing:

  • Familiarity with applicable industry codes, regulations and standards.
  • Exposure to project management and implementation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and ERP software.

5. Possess the following interpersonal skills:

  • Effective leadership and influential skills.
  • Solid communication skills including the ability to effectively converse with peers and supervisors, as well as composing concise and effective technical documents.
  • Physical capability, availability and willingness to work in an operating production environment.

6. Possess the following interpersonal skills:

  • Mobilizes quickly without acting impulsively, showing good judgment.
  • Works independently and under conditions of high interdependency.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and decision making skills.

7. Self-motivated in advancing to the highest level possible.

8. Skills to train and motivate team members for their development.
