Summary:

The Production Hub Specialist’s main responsibilities may include but are not limited to sourcing articles and photos publication in print newspapers; writing print headlines; proofing newspaper pages for all newspapers; and editing content to be shared across all newspapers.

This role is fully remote but must be based in any of these states: CA, CT, FL, IL, IN, MD, MI, MO, NJ, NY, OK, PA, TN, TX, VA

What you will do:

• Be fast and accurate: Always striving to provide readers with what we know, when we know it. Be transparent about sources of information
• Editing stories for length with an eye toward accuracy and readability; checking for grammar, punctuation and clarity; proofreading others’ work
• Writing easy-to-read, informative and creative headlines on tight deadlines
• Wire sourcing stories and photos including breaking news, profiles, opinion columns and features
• Resource system to optimize production
• Conceiving, creating, editing or producing various types of content
• Editing photos: pulling photos from wires and other sources; cropping and toning photos for publication
• Meeting production deadlines and maintaining ideal page flow under minimal to moderate supervision
• Employ independent news judgment
• Striving to meet specific individual goals to be assigned on a regular basis by supervisor

What you will bring:

• Ability to foster excellent communication with peers, supervisor(s), department and newsroom
• Solid grasp of the rules of grammar, spelling, punctuation. Ability to write and edit accurately, with clarity, without bias
• Adherence to the codes of ethics
• Strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit
• Ability to multi-task and perform in a fast-paced deadline driven environment
• Willingness to work evenings/weekends and irregular hours
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required
• A minimum of one year editing experience at a news publication; knowledge and acceptance of Tribune’s mission and strategy; excellent command of verbal and written English. Must be able and willing to work irregular hours and holidays as necessary and must be familiar with computers and software
