The Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University is looking for a full-time Product Designer to lead User Experience design for two education technology projects.
The
PLUS
  • Personalized Learning Squared project aims to double the rate of math learning in middle school students, particularly those who have been historically underserved. This project is operated in collaboration with Carnegie Learning and Stanford University and is led by Prof. Ken Koedinger and Shiv Gupta.
The METALS Online program is providing learning science and education technology professional development e-learning courses drawn from the successful
METALS
graduate program.
We are looking for a dynamic Product Designer who can work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Core responsibilities will include:
  • Collaborate with faculty researchers, learning engineering subject matter experts, and other key stakeholders to understand, balance, and prioritize key UI/UX challenges and requirements.
  • Work closely with product management, the engineering team, and other team members to understand detailed requirements.
  • Research and develop user flows, personas, and other UX artifacts to facilitate the design process.
  • Study usage by end consumers and regularly iterate on the platform experience.
  • Creating design mockups and prototypes and working with software developers to implement and test designs.

What You Bring:
  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
  • 3 years of experience working in a UX/UI design role
  • Detail oriented and able to manage multiple ongoing priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and a commitment to implementing inclusive practices.
  • Extensive experience in using UX design best practices to design solutions, and a deep understanding of mobile-first and responsive design.
  • Expertise in UX & UI software such as Figma is a must.
