The Position

Roche is seeking a motivated and team-oriented individual who is passionate about the possibilities of next-generation sequencing. Working with cross-functional teams, you will become an expert in the theory of operation of the nanopore DNA sequencing system and will play a key role in the successful transition of these technologies from an advanced proof of concept into the product phase. As a Principal System Integration Engineer, you will hold a leading role in defining, characterizing, integrating, and verifying these instruments and their consumable devices.

Responsibilities

  • Defining and interpreting technical requirements and design specifications

  • Developing test methods and verifying them

  • Driving design verification campaigns from planning to execution and reporting

  • Leading cross-functional teams to identify and document design and process risks

  • Coaching development teams on product development process and design controls.

  • Leading or participating in characterization, investigation, optimization, and integration activities of instruments and consumable devices

  • Reviewing existing product development process documents, performing gap assessments, and working with process experts to resolve issues

  • Designing experiments and analyzing experimental data

  • Participating in execution of design verification activities

  • Mentoring less experienced members of the team

  • Contributing to creation of architecture documents

  • Degree in mechanical engineering, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or systems engineering. Different degrees with relevant experience will be considered

  • Bachelor's degree with 6+ years of applicable industry experience, Master’s degree with 4+ years of applicable industry experience, or Ph.D. with 2+ years of applicable industry experience

  • Experience in hardware development and verification in a regulatory environment; medical device and complex consumable experience preferred

  • Proven ability to identify, assess, and solve technical problems

  • Strong soft skills for resolving technical disagreements, driving alignments, resolving conflict, and managing change

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical audiences

  • Experience with design verification including planning, designing studies, writing protocol and reports

  • Experience with test method development

  • Experience with failure modes and effects analysis (FMEAs)

  • Working knowledge of statistical methods and design of experiments (DOE)

  • Familiarity with microfluidics systems preferred

  • Experience with DNA sequencing preferred

  • Experience working in a matrix organization preferred

Relocation benefits are not offered for this role. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Santa Clara, CA is $ 125,000 and $155,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
