Position Title
K-6 Principal

Summary
The K-6 Principal serves as leader and general resource person in all matters relating to elementary curriculum development and evaluation. The Principal will provide leadership and administration which will motivate instructional and support personnel to strive for superior performance so as to provide the best possible opportunities for student growth and development, both educationally and personally.

Salary Grade and Location
Salary is highly competitive and based on degree and certification

10-month in person position

Insurance and 403(b) is offered to full time employees with cost based on coverage that is chosen.

Education, Experience, and/or Certification or License Requirements
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

Master’s degree or certificate in leadership or education.

School Building Leader NYS Certification, required

Minimum of 5 years related work experience, including consulting, management, business, operations, military, school district, charter, or other nonprofit experience as an educational leader in an urban school, charter school, higher education setting, or educational consultant

Competencies

Student Achievement & Student Support


  • Monitors the K-6 instructional program in a manner consistent withRenaissance Academy’s charter
  • Analyzes, reports and interprets student performance data and makes recommendations to the CEO for instructional improvement
  • Develops, submits and monitors budgets for specific aspects of the K-6program
  • Coordinates the program of ongoing evaluation of K-6 curriculum and instruction
  • Supervises, directs, coordinates, and/or assists with specially funded programs as assigned by the CEO
  • Meets regularly with the CEO to discuss to discuss important issues that might directly affect K-6 curriculum, instruction and assessment
  • Reviews and shares interim achievement data and reallocates resources of time, people and money to meet each student’s needs accordingly
  • Ensures that students are achieving the academic goals, as outlined in the charter
  • Adapts and changes academic frameworks, based on student needs

Teacher Support


  • Lead teachers in the implementation of best practices, such as weekly data protocol
  • Along with CEO, develops professional development plan for the academic school year
  • Plans and delivers professional learning opportunities
  • Provides a supportive environment through leadership that allows teachers to grow in their practice

Teacher Selection & Evaluation

  • Supervises and evaluates assigned leadership staff
  • Supervises and evaluates K-6 classroom teachers and assistant teachers in collaboration with the Assistant Principal
  • Conducts teacher candidate observations, provides feedback and conducts interview
  • Ensures that classrooms have common components posted such as expectations, and school mission
  • Conducts teacher evaluations; determine if teachers need to be placed on improvement plans
  • Conducts regular walk-throughs and formal observations
  • Recommends final academic hiring decisions to the CEO

Parent Outreach & Investment

  • Effectively handles K-6 parents’ concerns
  • Identifies the schoolwide communication app for teacher use with families
  • Utilizes Apptegy/Thrillshare to communicate with families
  • Plans and attends school community building events, such as CurriculumNights, etc.
  • Attends RAFFA meetings and presents on school news when appropriate
  • Works with the school nurse and data coordinator to ensure students are in compliance with health physicals and immunizations

School Culture

  • Provides teacher training during in-service on all school routines and procedures
  • Establishes parameters of student acculturation at beginning of the school year and the beginning of each term
  • Delivers morning announcements to the school's community
  • Issues suspensions and recommends students for expulsion
  • Creates a supportive environment for staff and students to grow

  • Maintains and promotes a positive culture of teaching and learning for all staff and students
  • Provides timely and effective communications regarding incidents and/or situations which might impact Renaissance Academy Charter School of the arts, to the CEO
  • Provides program information to the CEO to assist in the creation of reports and/or presentations to NYSED and the Board of Trustees
  • Represents Renaissance Academy in community affairs and activities
  • Attends all Executive Leadership and Leadership Team meetings
  • Effectively accomplishes duties as assigned by the CEO

Board of Trustees

  • Attends Board meetings regularly
  • Serves as a member of the Board’s Academic Committee

Compliance


  • Ensures that the academic program is executed in alignment with the terms of the Charter
  • Ensures compliance with regulations related to school’s special Education program
