Job Summary
Responsible for maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment with a high focus on electrical systems up to 240kv. Responsible for the preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance of all combined cycle power plant mechanical and electrical equipment.
Job Description
Key Accountabilities
  • Maintain electrical equipment.
  • Operate and maintain rotating equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and develop solutions to operational or performance issues is crucial.
  • Maintain distributed control systems.
  • Work with 120v to 240kv systems, DC systems, switchgear, MCC's, breakers, contactors, protective relays, etc.
  • Familiar with predictive tools such as infrared monitoring, oil analysis, gas analysis and vibration monitoring.
  • Possess a strong understanding of the fundamental design & operation of a combined cycle power plant.
  • Knowledge of power plant mechanical and electrical equipment as well as safety policies and procedures, especially in the areas of LOTO, Arc Flash, high-energy systems, chemical handling, heavy equipment, rotating machinery, confined spaces, incipient fire suppression, and first-aid/CPR.
  • Experience in the maintenance, repair, and installation of rotating equipment including pumps, mechanical seals, gas and steam turbines, generators, fans, bearings, gaskets, couplings, alignment, etc.).
  • Knowledge of heat recovery steam generators and related equipment, piping systems (valves, actuators, flanges, hangers, etc.), and lube oil, analysis, filtration & hydraulic oil systems
  • Knowledge of and experience in several of the following skills: pipefitting, welding, machining, rigging, rotating machine repair, fabrication, machine alignment, basic vibration analysis, and using electrical/power equipment.
  • Must be able to locate, trouble-shoot, and adjust defects in mechanical equipment.
  • Support local start-up of all major equipment (turbines, compressors, pumps, motors, etc.)
  • Continually look for opportunities to create value through innovation and efficient use of existing resources.
  • Capable of frequently standing; walking; sitting; climbing; stooping and crouching; kneeling; reaching; pushing; pulling; grasping; talking; lifting and hearing
  • The job also requires carrying, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds..
  • Worker will be exposed to temperatures greater than 100 degrees Fahrenheit; equipment noise greater than 85 dbl; and hazards such as high-pressure steam lines.
  • The job requires the ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions while exposed to heat, cold, operating machinery, energized wires, loud noise, dust, grease, oil and fumes.
  • Capable of using computer, telephone, radio, metering and calibration tools, hand-held tools, power equipment, etc.· Must be able to frequently climb stairs; climb ladders to and work from elevated platforms and walkways at elevations of 75 feet or more.
  • Will be required to occasionally work in tight and confined spaces.
  • Ability to work at heights and with adverse conditions during operations and when participating in fire / emergency activities.
  • Ability to enter and work in a confined space.
  • Must be able to pass a respirator fit test.
  • Personal protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, chemical suits, and high voltage protective equipment).
  • Ability to work call out maintenance.
  • Ability to hear audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of rotating equipment, and portable radio communication.
  • Ability to perform first aid and CPR.
  • Must be available and able to work occasional overtime and shift work
  • Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1-3 years of power or industrial plant Electrical/mechanical maintenance experience
  • Must be able to read and interpret P&ID’s, electrical and mechanical drawings, and equipment manuals
  • Experience with gas turbine combined cycle maintenance preferred.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to utilize programming software for Bently Nevada vibration monitoring
  • Possess a strong knowledge, experience and troubleshooting with AC and DC electrical systems,
  • Possess a strong knowledge, experience and troubleshooting of mechanical systems
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate technical processes, use process & test data required and the ability to effectively prioritize & execute these tasks in a high-pressure environment is required.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and develop solutions to operational or performance issues is crucial.
  • Flexibility/Adaptability – Effectively responds to change in the business or work environment. Adjusts to and accepts changes in direction and priorities.
  • Interpersonal Skills/Teamwork – Demonstrates positive behavior and works well with others.

  • Must be familiar with OSHA requirements.
  • Must be knowledgeable and able to use basic quality assurance skills.
  • Basic proficiency in software applications such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Must pass POSS/MASS pre-employment exam
This position can be filled at a level I, II, III or IV depending on experience and skill level.
