Summary

The Plant Controller is responsible for maintenance and preparation of mid-month, monthly, and quarterly journal entries, reconciliation of financial and overhead statements, and creating reports that reflect cost & margin, fringe, lease, rental costs, etc. and business projections using GAAP financial and accounting principles.

Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.
  • Prepares and reconciles month-end journal entries, financial statements, and overhead statements.
  • Maintains and monitors general ledger activities.
  • Supports Operations in understanding current operational activities and how to use the data to predict future performance to assist in making sound business decisions.
  • Prepares and distributes reports on Key Measurables to local and Corporate Management.
  • Prepares mid-month financial projections for review by plant managers to provide early indications of profitability and cost distribution.
  • Applies intercompany invoices to railcar/railcar parts production work orders.
  • Prepares quarterly reports, such as fringe, lease, rental expense, etc.
  • Provides audit support with both internal and external auditing groups.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the Division Controller.

Qualifications
The following generally describes requirements to successfully perform the assigned duties.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in preparing journal entries and monthly reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal control procedures.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) computer systems and proficient with Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Bachelor's degree with a major or minor in accounting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years accounting experience.
  • 2+ years supervisory experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting
