Job Summary
The Auburn University Office of Advancement team seeks a Planned Giving Officer to serve as a valued member of the gift planning and advancement teams and work in tandem with constituent development officers to secure outright, blended, and deferred gifts in support of Auburn University and its affiliates! This individual is assigned leadership responsibilities from the Senior Director and will need to harness experience to devise high level technical charitable estate planning strategies that compliment higher education institutional goals. They will serve as a mentor to Gift Planning and frontline Development Officers and will help them navigate more complex donor strategies. The Gift Planning Officer III will have advanced knowledge of estate planning, taxation, charitable estate planning, and gift planning vehicles.

The GPO will work with the Senior Director in implementing the strategic advancement of the gift planning program to include marketing initiatives, data management and reporting, estate gift processing, active management of the life insurance program, internal and external education and training, lead generation and tracking, and staying abreast of changing tax laws, and IRS rules and regulations pertaining to charitable estate planning.

Essential Functions
The GPO will work with donors, advisors, family members, constituent development representatives and others to develop meaningful philanthropic goals along with a tax/financially smart road map to achieve those goals.
  • Manage a portfolio of 100 (MOL) planned gift prospects.
  • Personally identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of donors to develop individualized giving plans that provide financial support to Auburn University tax exempt entities.
  • Personally make face to face visits with suspects/prospects/donors for qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Become proficient in mission, vision, and programs within the university and be able to relay that into a compelling case for support.
  • Assist donors and their advisors in establishing philanthropic vision, goals and plans and record this information in the donor management system.
  • Research, prepare and present philanthropic giving proposals to donors/prospects
  • Complete designated gift plans, endowments, gift agreements, call reports and legacy paperwork on a timely basis.
  • Keep accurate and up to date information related to all activities with donors and prospects in the designated systems.
  • Remain current on changes in income, estate, and gift tax related rules, regulations, and trends.
  • Engage in professional organizations related to the field of gift planning, advancement, and higher education.
  • Develop relationships with professional advisors to enhance future gift commitments.
  • Participate in development of marketing strategies, donor recognition plans, stewardship plans, George Petrie Society activities, and other donor society and appreciation events.
  • Be proficient in donor management or CRM systems, planned giving calculation software (PG Calc or Crescendo), Microsoft suite of tools, financial planning software programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Planned Giving Officer III ($64,700-$116,500)
Bachelor’s degree plus 6 years experience in fundraising, marketing, sales, and/or public relations.

Senior Major Planned Giving Officer ($82,600-$156,900)
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution plus (7) or more years of gift solicitation experience, development, fundraising, or marketing with at least 2 or more years in a higher education setting. A demonstrated record of successful major gift solicitations and experience designing and executing donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies.

Must possess a valid drivers license.
