Marshall University invites applications for a full-time Piano Technician position. This is a professional who will report directly to the Director of the School of Music.

Tune and repair pianos as needed, including those used for concerts in multiple performance venues. Maintain inventory of 70 pianos with estimated value exceeding $1,000,000. Maintain a clean, safe environment in the piano workshop, inventory parts and tools, and establish policies and procedures for technical handling of pianos and professional workplace practices.
The chosen candidate will create a regular service schedule for piano maintenance. In addition, the technician will prioritize needs based on the concert and recital calendar of performances and:
  • Maintain records on piano repairs and tuning.
  • Maintain a database for inventory control and service schedules.
Further, this person will coordinate, schedule, and supervise piano moves for faculty offices, student practice rooms, faculty and student recitals, guest artists, academic performances, and for professional artists to meet contract obligations for the Marshall Artists Series and other university events.
This position requires flexibility to work some weekends and evenings as needed.
Location MU - Marshall University Salary Range $34,200 -$44,400; Salary may be increased based off education, experience, and internal equity. Salary Grade 4

Required Qualifications

Education
Bachelor’s degree or commensurate professional experience
  • Substitution: A minimum of 3 years concert tuning experience may be substituted for the required bachelor’s degree
Aural tuning skills to A-440


Experience
Professional experience equivalent to a master’s level
Experience voicing and installing a variety of instruments
Thorough piano rebuilding and maintenance skills to include major makers
Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, guest artists, and administration
May present lectures to classes on piano tuning and related subjects.
