Department Details

Sanford Health is seeking a Physicist in the Radiation Oncology Department at the Sanford Cancer Center in Sioux Falls, SD. The employee will share duties with two Physicists and a Director of Physics. The department has four radiation oncologists and four dosimetrists. Certification in radiation oncology physics is preferred; however, consideration will be given to new grads and non-certified physicists who are board eligible. This position will be involved in all aspects of modern image-guided external beam photon therapy and HDR brachytherapy. HDR experience and AMP status on a RAM license is preferred. Prior Aria/Eclipse experience is preferred.

Department equipment consists of a TrueBeam STX and a TomoTherapy Hi-Art with a third TrueBeam being installed. Department software includes Aria/Eclipse 16.1 in a Citrix environment with all new FAS/GPU's, RapidArc, RapidPlan and MCO. Portal Dosimetry is used for routine IMRT QA. RadCalc, Velocity along with ClearCheck, AutoContour and EZFluence from Radformation are used. A GE Optima CT scanner is used for simulations. A Varian GammaMed Plus iX HDR unit is used to support the gyn brachytherapy practice. QA equipment is primarily Sun Nuclear with SunCHECK/DoseCHECK software with 3DS and 1DS tanks, IC Profiler and DQA3.

Support is also provided to a satellite Sanford Health clinic in Worthington, MN. Equipment for this site includes a new Truebeam and Canon Aquilion CT scanner. The department software exists in the same environment as the Sioux Falls clinic.

Job Summary

Provides consultation services to physicians and staff regarding the use of radiation to obtain quality diagnostic images. Oversees the use of radiation in diagnostic imaging and/or radiation oncology for the Sanford system to ensure safety and compliance with professional accreditations as well as state and federal requirements. Helps install printers, computers, and other technology related to the clinic (i.e., CT, simulation, setups, fabricate materials). Utilizes knowledge of physics and technology as a resource when consulting with physicians. Possesses an understanding of radiological fields.

Qualifications

Master s degree in physics, biophysics, medical physics or radiological physics.

Two years experience working in diagnostic radiology/nuclear medicine department responsible for equipment testing and quality control/quality assurance preferred.

Board certified required. If not certified, the new hire has five years from time of hire to become certified.

For a physicist in diagnostic radiology, acceptable certifications are: the American Board of Radiology in Diagnostic Physics, Diagnostic Medical Physics, or Diagnostic Radiologic Physics, American Board of Medical Physics, Canadian College of Physicist in Medicine or related certification board.

For a physicist in radiation oncology, acceptable certifications are: the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Physics, Therapeutic Medical Physics, or Therapeutic Radiologic Physics, American Board of Medical Physics, Canadian College of Physicist in Medicine or related certification board.
